A Potential Cavs - Heat Series

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They completely lucked out with Whiteside, even though I see a correction to the mean coming.

They actually have a worse record since Hassanmania started than before it, if I'm adding up right.

I'm seeing a lot of hubris in this thread - A LOT of hubris.

Remember Oedipus, who was punished for his hubris!

If healthy, they a legit title contender and the East suddenly has 4-5 teams which could beat the Western Conf winner.

Whiteside really helps them with regards to rim protection but the big concern has to be 3 point shooting with them. Bosh is probably their best 3 point shooter. Deng can hit the 3 but him Dragic, and Wade are all more mid range guys. I think you pack the paint and go under all the picks to make their wings prove that they can beat you with the 3.

Mozgov better be healthy as well on the opposite side with us. If healthy he'll help stuff out the drives. Without him we will have a much harder time keeping them out of the paint and forcing the Heat into becoming a jumpshooting squad

I usually like your posts, but I just don't know how anyone can really think they're a title contender.

Is Dragic LeBron James? He makes that much of an impact suddenly? They were still pretty lousy with what they already had.

Mozgov clearly bothered Whiteside with his height. He's a good player, a great story. I won't say otherwise, even though he's on the Heat. I wish him well. But I don't think he would be a serious threat to us at all.

I think this secures a playoff birth for them, and that's it.

Wade still can't stay healthy. They basically nuked all their cap room for 2016 with this trade, and gave up all their future picks.

I think it was a horrible trade long-term. Good short-term in making them slightly better, but title contender? Hell no.

They are still not better than Us, Atlanta, Washington, or Toronto even.

They might be better than the Bucks now, after their terrible trade though.

For all we know, Hassan Whiteside is the Jeremy Lin of big men.

I don't feel good about a Cavs-Heat series at all. I think Cavs win it but it could go 6 or 7 games, which would really hurt us further in the playoffs. This team's starting five is pretty solid and they have a decent bench with Chalmers, Napier, and Anderson. I think Cavs are better but the emotion may cost us a game and I think the Heat are good enough to win one, maybe two, at home.

Not hubris. Logic.
Exactly. It's not like they've become the 2009-10 Celtics and, perhaps more importantly, we sure as **** aren't the 2009-2010 Cavs in terms of our coaching, championship makeup and mentality, etc.

Some of you guys have the basketball version of battered wife syndrome. Have you guys watched the Heat play this year outside of games against the Cavs? They're a complete mess and they just traded two first rounders for an up-tempo PG to run their methodical, half-court system.

Their roster, as is, over a full 82 game schedule, is still a 7, maybe a six seed in the East.

It seems the hype of the Heat has followed them. LeBron James is not walking back through their door, and it's pretty evident how much they relied on him, and how its gone down the drain for them since he's left.

Even with guys like Bosh and Wade that are clearly all-star players, but at least Wade is clearly not what he once was. The Heat aren't any concern, nor should they be.

I am not sure Dragic will fit in that well either. A bleacher reporter put up an interesting stat, where the Heat are dead last in pace. The Suns second. The fast pace favors Dragic a lot, the Suns run a very guard friendly system.

I am not saying he'll be bad, but I really wouldn't expect the production he had with the Suns.

Does it help the Heat? Sure, to secure a playoff birth, that's it. This isn't a whoa!! This team can really compete now move.

But I want an easy first-round series. This doesn't feel easy.

In the NBA, nothing is "easy" no matter what you've been led to believe. But in relative to every other 7 / 8 seed pretty much ever, yes they are just as "easy" as the next 7/8 seed.

Yeah, I want competition too. If we are going to be champs, there's no hiding. We're going to have to go through the best teams to get there. Even if the Heat were a threat, which I really don't think they are, it wouldn't really bother me.

It wasn't easy for the Spurs, they almost got beat by Dallas, but still ended up champs. If you're the best, you don't run from anyone.

It really depends on Wade. If he's Wade from last years Indiana series: I do think with Whiteside and Dragic that is an extremely good team. Reminds of Portland in some ways; extremely good starting 5 with nothing backing them up.

Now are they going to get that Wade or more the SA Finals Wade? He's shown flashes of his old self but it's unlikely we'll get to see that Wade for an entire playoff run. Long term it blows but when they signed Bosh to that long contract it seemed like they were all in for one last run.

That's expecting a lottttt right now. If Wade was his past self, I'd be scared of the Heat period, but he's not shown glimpses of it. He's still very good, but not a player that can be asked to carry a team on his back, and win it all.

He still shows glimpses of being able to be his old self at times, but it never lasts anymore. His body can't do it anymore.

Basically, their best player is Bosh, since he's their most consistent relied upon option. A team with Bosh as their best player, with all due respect, isn't going very far.

6 at the very worst, meaning Wade rewinds the clock 5 years for the entire series...

Bad move by the Heat, they are stuck now. Win now mode, but not close to good enough to actually win it all. Cap space all tied up in 30+ year olds, none of which are stars at this point. And they have no picks. Yikes. At least Riles has them relevant now...I guess?
