Don't know if anyone is even thinking about next year. . . but (well after the lockout and the owners rape the players because of what the superfriends did) . . . what do the Heat look like? D Wade's comment about not having the highest payroll made me wonder. True. They are 17. But you have to imagine a hard cap comes in.

Also, you have to know that it won't be the same with players going there to win a ring. I don't think lots of guys want anything to do with this team. Maybe some egotistical underachiever would take the minimum, but I gotta think based on most players tweets it is the opposite of what you might of thought a year ago as far as willingness to sign up or a ring based on the unprecedented revulsion this team creates.

Anyways back to my point.

Assuming a lockout. In 2012 they have SIX players under contract at $65,724,000
Lebron 17,545,000
Bosh 17,545,000
Wade 17,024,000

Then (and this is TWO years out)
Miller 5.8
Haslem 4
Joel Anthony 3.75

How exactly can they go forward with this team. They don't even have draft picks for what like the next ten drafts so that neither us nor the raptors would pursue tampering charges?

I truly believe that their original plan was to win the championship this season and to use that leverage to lure role players to play for less $ on their team next year to fill in their needs. Come to Miami for less money, but win a ring and live in South Beach. I think that plan just went up in smoke.

They could just trade Lebron and open up 17 million to other players. That could be two more starters worth of money.

Yeah, there's been several posts to this effect. I don't see them doing that this year. I think they'll make a run of it one more time with the Big Three in tact - but probably a new coach. If they fail next season and the CBA goes against them this season, there would be more pressure to do something dramatic like that. I think this year they'll just shrug it off and say something like "well, it was the first year they all played together, let's see what kind of help we can get them and try it again."

But if LeBron continues to shut down at big moments, they're all screwed.

I agree that their finals performance and behaviour might of really put off veterans from signing with them. Firstly, they were unsuccessful and so the chances of them winning next season look bad, secondly they are a bunch of twats and so why would you want to be asscoiated with them. I actually think i heard Z do a facepalm from the miami bench when lebron shot the floater airball, he must be so embarrassed to be associated with him.

I really doubt that potential free agents are going to think they don't have a chance to do just that though. I mean they were a basket here or there or a stop here or there from winning it all. Or LeBron not sucking the entire series.

They won't, but they should get rid of Spoelstra. He's just awful, the Cavs offense with just LeBron was way better than the Heat's because he decides to run so many different sets. The Cavs wouldn't run that many sets and were hugely successful with a pretty small playbook.

For instance, tonight every time LeBron got the ball in the post he either scored or was doubled teamed, and the Heat got a wide open layup. If I'm the coach, I call that play every damn time until the Mavs show they can force contested shots. None of the shots the Heat got were contested. I'm not sure how closely everyone watched the halftime analysis, but they showed the Heat ran the same set three times in a row, with different variations. One time LeBron got a cross screen off-ball and got the ball on the block, the Mavs doubled, and Bosh made a wide open 18 footer. Next play all the Mavs see the same set coming, and the Heat fake the cross screen, but it's really just an iso for Wade and he blows by Kidd for a layup, probably thinking he has help but it's not there in time. Third time LeBron got a down screen instead of cross screen, attacked with one dribble and drew the defense, kicked to Bosh for another wide open 18 footer.

So three for three, and the Heat don't run the set ever again in the game as far as I could tell.

I've never coached above the junior high level, and even then it was only for a traveling team in the summer as an assistant, but I'm a big fan of running a play or set until the defense stops it a couple times in a row. And a "stop" doesn't count as a clanked open jumper. I'm pretty sure most games the Heat would be happy if Bosh was getting totally uncontested 18 footers each possession. He probably makes 60% from there.

mario chalmers is a free agent. he had a very good playoffs and will want paid. if there is any sort of hard cap next year, any at all, the heat are going to be in trouble. paying $10 million per year for the combined services of mike miller and udonis haslem isn't good bang for your buck.

I think they'll try to get better as a team next year and if it doesn't happen again I'd expect Wade or Bron to be flipped for another star that fits + some good role players. They're still a very good team and with the right trade could be even better. As long as you have 3 all-stars, you have flexibility.
