I will offer one caveat to this point of view, and maybe it's something the NBA should consider.
Maybe just go with it. Make it completely into a no defense score-fest, and challenge each all-star group to break the previous high scoring record each year. How many points can possibly be scored before they max out? Is it 300? 500? 900? NBA all-star fans need to know. Just nothing but uncontested full-court inbounds passes to uncontested 3 point shooters with dunkers standing by for immediate putbacks or to pass it back out for another uncontested 3 point shot. I might be down for that, at least for a year or 2.
