Anthony Bennett

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bennett missed Minnesota's most recent game because of "knee soreness".

It has been nice to see Bennett playing well. This is basically what I thought he'd be able to do for us last year if we hadn't mishandled him so terribly. Hopefully his knee soreness is just a minor thing, and he'll be able to get back at it this week.

if we hadn't mishandled him so terribly.

I'm not saying he was handled correctly, but I'm not sure what you think the team did wrong.

Let's see. The team had dedicated development coaches for Bennett, and those guys were the only coaches that survived the off season. The team encouraged him to get his own cook to adjust his diet. They had him bring family with him to Cleveland so he wasn't left alone in a strange town. The guy wasn't dropped off at the bus stop ...

Now Bennett had adversity. He had the shoulder surgery 6 months before training camp. Bennett also had the weight, apnea, and asthma issues. Hard to blame those things to mishandling though. Those were just red flags on his draft report that the team though they could work though.

The team was not a great place to be last year. The training camp was rumored to be pretty disorganized. The locker room was a mess during the season and filled with drama magnets. The team sucked and lacked structure, but that just didn't affect Bennett. Some of the young guys like Dellavedova, Sims, and even Waiters seemed to work though the situation OK. They were a little older, but not that much.

Bennett did look like he was starting to turn the corner last February but he came down with knee issues shortly after he seemed to start putting things together which was a shame.

If only there was a way to transplant some of Waiters excess self confidence into Bennett, they both might be better players for it.

I gotta say Bennett does seem to have knack for small injuries holding him out of games. When you're young and trying to earn minutes it's not a good look.

Bennett had a solid game starting in place of Thad Young vs. the Mavericks. Really wish the Wolves would just make the switch, I really thought they were stupid to grab Thad when Bennett has a higher ceiling and you just stunt his growth by playing him behind Thad. Gotta sell them tickets, I suppose.

Anyway, his line:
4-8 FG, 2-2 FTs, 7 boards, 4 assists, 10 points, no turnovers in 29 minutes. Not super, but pretty solid for a guy that looked so inept last year.

Very late response, I know, but I would say that rushing him on to the court before he had a chance to get back into shape following his surgery and recovery was the biggest reason for his failures on the court last year because he shouldn't have even been on the court. There was no reason for him to be playing basketball the first part of last season.

Simply put, he was not put in a position to succeed last year.

I have a question, Would it have been possible to not throw Bennet as a throw in in the Love trade?

Needed his contract in there to make the money work. So, the answer is no. Not that it would have been worth fighting for to begin with. We got Kevin Love.

Bennett would have been buried on our bench this year anyway.

Nerlens Noel would have been a great pick now, I think he would have been great At C with that offense.
Unlucky for the Cavs he was injured, just like Embiid

He would have been traded with Wiggins
