Arenas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
6 years, 111 million for Arenas is official.
WASHINGTON -- Gilbert Arenas is accepting less money from the Washington Wizards, invoking an attitude far, far removed from the world of his working-class fans.

"What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can't do with $111 million?" he told The Washington Post.

The unpredictable three-time All-Star point guard, in vintage Agent Zero fashion, told the Post and the Washington Times on Thursday that he has agreed to re-sign for $111 million over six years, considerably less than the maximum deal he said the Wizards offered him when the free agency period began on Tuesday.

Arenas negotiated the deal from China, where is traveling as part of promotional tour for a shoe company, and did so without an agent.

"I'm basically giving back $16 million," Arenas told the Washington Times. "This is in line with what I've been saying the whole time. You see players take max deals and they financially bind their teams. I don't wanna be one of those players and three years down the road your team is strapped and can't do anything about it."

Yea Gilbert, settling for "just" $111 million won't bind your team at all and really allow them tons of flexibility to make moves.

I hope he isn't serious about some of his comments and giving up $16 million. That won't make any difference in the Wizards ability to make moves.

Well, I would love to see LBJ give back 1 million... :chuckles:

Like he would even consider it...

Isn't that the amount of the yearly allowance he gives Boobie to be his stand-in little brother? :chuckles:

That's hilarious. Right Gil, because only taking $111 million is going to help your team so much financially, that they can sign another all star. Please. They just paid $111 million dollars for an injury prone, drama queen; who chokes during big moments in games. Not to mention he runs his mouth as if he's worth $111 million dollars. That's right Washington, keep overpaying your players, while iinflating their ego's at the same time. It's still not getting you out of the first round.

16 million over 6 years is nothing...

2.65 over a year for 6 years...that isn't even enough to re-sign Darius Songaila.

He gave back more than almost any other star, so lets not hate on him for possibly the only decent thing he has ever done that is basketball related. He will give us so much to hate on again next year as he watches the cavs go onto the next round in the comfort of his home. Good news is now he can watch the cavs in the play-offs in his new bad ass home entertainment room. :D

Not hating, but he's coming off as if he just allowed them to pursue Brand or something. Cool move, but it hardly effects the Wizards.
