I was doing my daily reading this morning, and happened to be reading comments that were made during and after the draft.
That's when I ran into this article, written on the day of the draft: Link to Story
The article basically talks about the Warriors needing to draft Anthony Randolph, and how Mullin wouldn't pass-up the opportunity if it presented itself.
And, who did they draft? Anthony Randolph!
Then I got to thinking:
GS is always conscious of the luxury tax, and never breaks it. Mullin is always wanting to get the very best he can for what he has (you'd think ALL GM's would be this way, but they aren't). Then, it occurred to me: Andris Biedrins is a restricted free-agent, and the Warriors don't want to match, but they will if they are forced to.
So, then I got to thinking (I'm assuming you read the article)... If Mullin were to pull-off a deal that involved Andris Biedrins & Baron Davis, that would ultimately set GS up for the next 4+ years.
Here is what I came-up with:
Golden State sends:
Baron Davis
Andris Biedrins
Cleveland sends:
Wally Szczerbiak
Anderson Varejao
Eric snow
2009 & 2011 1st round picks
How the trade is actually done:
Andris would need to be a S&T player, and he wants around 10 million per year...and unlike Varejao, he's actually worth it!!!!! Problem here is that a S&T player cannot be traded with another person. So Andris would get his 50 million, but his first year salary would be about 7 million, and he'd be traded for Eric Snow & a 1st round draft pick.
Davis would be traded for Wally and Anderson and a 1st round draft pick.
Although the trades would be done separately, they'd be completed at the same time.
The Cavs would have their #2 and 2 good young bigs (JJ & Andris). They would be out of draft picks for a while, but such is the price you pay to get some rings.
The Warriors meanwhile would ship Al Harrington or Varejao off next year for yet another 1st round pick, allowing them to stay young, cheap, yet good enough to compete every year.
I think there might actually be some validity to this rumor we were hearing about Davis.
OH... BTW, The Cavaliers can't/couldn't mention ANYTHING about this trade before Tuesday (July, 1st)... nor could ANY of their employees, as it would be tampering! Keep that in mind when you think of what you may have been told earlier this past weekend.
