So I have noticed that a lot of you guys are into lifting and know a lot about it and wondered if you guys could give me a few pointers. I haven't lifted since high school (4 years) except for the occasional 2 or 3 times a month after playing bball and having a few extra minutes for some curls and bench. I will be going to Hawaii in mid December for a week with a few buddies and I'm looking to get in some shape quick so I do look like a slob when we get there. I've been lifting for 3 weeks now. I'm not only asking this for vacation but I am going to lift 3 or 4 times a week now to put on some muscle mass and weight. The question I have is what are the best things to eat to gain muscle? I'm not trying to cut up or anything, just looking on putting on muscle mass and gaining about 15 lbs. I'm currently 6'1.5 and weigh about 185 lbs but I feel like I'm skinny as hell. If you guys have any pointers I'm willing to here them, thanks!

Clean foods with protein... And even fresh fruit.. Why ?? Amino Acids, which react faster..

This is an easy one... Up your calorie intake of clean foods...

I'll give you my personal diet for muscle building...

7:00am: 4 eggs sunny side up, 6 slices of turkey (or ham, but I hate ham), banana, 2 glasses milk, 1 glass juice, 2 pieces whole wheat toast

9:00am: Banana, protein shake, and something with a casein protein (casein means slow moving) I recommend cottage cheese

12:00pm: chicken breast or beef banana, 4 glasses of milk, 2 glasses juice, 3 slices of whole wheat bread and some vegetables

2:00pm: Snack like usually 4-5 slices of turkey, a low fat yogurt and almonds..

5:30pm: This is usually my main meal...No less than 5 glasses of milk, a big steak or 2 small steak... cottage cheese with low fat yogurt and some raisins.. 4 or 5 pieces of whole grain bread...vegetables,

9:00pm: snack- more turkey or chicken breast, water and a protein shake with a banana and natural peanut butter

12:00am: banana, chicken breast, 2 tbs. of peanut butter.

When you talk a class of milk, like how many ounces, seems like I am going to consume a gallon a day with this lol

You don't have to be exact with it, but I would try to get 6-8oz per serving...

You go through a lot of food in a day lol, i would have to quit my job and get free food stamps to keep up with that plan lol.

But if you got a plan to help lose weight fast let me know lol....

I can vouch for this as I have used p90x since May and transformed myself pretty nicely. I went from minimal ripples in the stomach to full blown 6 pack with crazy definition. I actually did the first 4 or so months without the chin up bar. Since I have added the chin up bar, I got more of the V shape and my upper body is much stronger. The one problem I have is with the legs segment, although they have grown a little and more ripped, they haven't developed at the rate of my upper body. I don't think the leg exercise in P90X does enough to truly build mass. Great for getting ripped though.

That amount of food is not going to be feasible for most people both monetarily and physically. That's a good reason why PIP appears to have a lot more mass then me. I can;t even come close to matching that type of caloric intake. I eat what I can and then add an Ensure during the day.

It's not that expensive....

Add mass? eat as many clean calories as you can....things like pip mentioned, fresh chicken breasts or turkey cutlets are great...no fat, just clean, lean protein (fresh meat is preferred, lunch meat has a shit ton of sodium in it, which retains water) tons of vegetables and fruits (if you choose the canned variety, go with no salt added as well, as regular canned veggies contain a ton of sodium too)....and take protein shakes with glutamine.....

Here is a 700 calorie protein shake that actually is delicious:
1.5 cups skim milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp Flax oil
1 tsp Glutamine
1 tbsp natural peanut butter
1/4 cup oats
7 ice cubes
2 scoops vanilla protein
1 banana

mmmm......

I guarantee if you follow that you will get the mass size you desire if you're a scrawny fella...

I wouldn't lead my RCFers down the wrong path here...

what's the story with this P90X? I could stand to tone up quite a bit. I'm a relatively skinny dude with a stomach I'd like to ditch. I had been running 20 minutes 3 days a week and lifting a little but I've slacked off quite a bit in the past month.

What could be switched with Milk, I never drank a glass of milk in my life.

Nasty stuff
