would we even do this trade....

http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...ormat=text

A move to Minnesota may be the closest (one source placed the odds of Blount going for Michael Olowokandi at 80 percent), but Cleveland, Denver and Memphis are still very much in the picture. And now that things have gotten into the open, look for the process to gain speed. If there’s a deal here for the Celtics to make, they would like it to happen soon so the team can go about its business.
Marcus Banks is also involved at this point. If something were to happen with Cleveland, he would accompany Blount. Sources say Drew Gooden and Damon Jones have been discussed as a return.

i wouldnt mind this really but I would rather send Newble over instead of DJ...this would give us a very good back up for big Z and he can really score in the low post and I also like Banks potential

what do you all think?

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

I think if you can find a taker for Damon and his contract ? You do it with no questions asked...

In fact, you send them a thank you note and a gift basket along with that jackass...

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

Hmm. I guess it could be a good trade, we get a quick PG with potential in return for a chucker, and we get a back-up for Zydrunas while ridding ourselves of the inconsistent Gooden. But that leaves us a hole at PF, unless we plan of playing Blount there.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

Blount can play both positions, question is does he have the work ethic to rebound a double figure, not to mention he has quite a contract. At PF we have AV, Marshall, and Henderson who can all play that position. Longer term we will have Marty as well, since his game by his own words is more forward like than center like.

Still I think we would do this trade if we got a pick, or we could add Sasha or alan henderson and try to get one of the other young player on the Boston Bench (Justin Reed?) With Z limiting minutes due to the knee, and Gooden out with a Boozer type injury "Houston we have a problem". It favors Boston, but considering the source that is to be expected.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

Getting rid of jones is def. intriguing.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

Hmm. Damon Jones/Drew Gooden for Mark Blount/Marcus Banks....

Both would be decent fits... Blount wants touches, so he'll likely come off the bench backing up Z. Does he play defense? Yes, but doesn't grab rebounds as much as he should. It shouldn't be a problem as our wing players are quite active on the glass. Biggest problem? 5 years, 30 million left on his contract. Ick.

If we do this? We better get a #1 pick. Throw in Sasha if we have to.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

i have brought up many times that i thought Gooden would be gone by the trade deadline, not because he can't play but because he is the biggest trade assest the Cavs have. not to mention i really don't see the Cavs bringing him back at the end of the year. it would be nice to grab a guy like Blount who could be a true back up Center and can play the 4 if needed.

as for the Jones/Banks part of this deal, not sure about that. Banks is a guy who has never lived up to the billing he got when he was drafted. yes there are problems with Jones on defense but eventually his shot will start falling which still brings value.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

That trade would help us get rid of a problem (D. Jones); strengthen our point guard position, which is our Achilles heel; and give us a good back-up center who can also play power forward. All those are positives. Here are some negatives. They both have attitude problems; Blount has a big contract; and Banks is a free agent if I remember right. It's tempting to pull the trigger right now with Z suffering and Jones in a slump, but on balance I wouldn't do this deal because I think for Gooden you want to get a bona fide starter at point guard. Banks is an improvement, but, let's face it, he's a third guard behind West and Green in Boston, which doesn't say much for him.

Blount - 29 min, 51%FG, 78%FT, 13.1 pts, 4.4 rebs, 1.8 apg, 1 bpg. #1 in NBA in turnovers per 48min.
05/06 - 5,512,500
06/07 - 6,125,000
07/08 - 6,737,500
08/09 - 7,350,000
09/10 - 7,962,500

Marcus Banks - 16min, 42%FG, 33%3P, 89%FT, 6.1 ppg, 1.9 apg.
05/06 - 1,724,280

In a nutshell, I agree with your statement. I don't think we get enough talent back for giving up Gooden and Jones.

I say no way!

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

i found on ESPN.com that the Nuggets would be sending Watson for Blount. that would give Boston a roster of 23 PG's.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

well it looks like this deal is gaining some merit from what Ive been hearing....We need a backup center so badly right now and in general that I say we need to pull the trigger....banks will suit us well enough and this would mean that AV's role would be greatly increased as well as Henderson

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

I'd also say no way. Granted, Blount would be a nice fit, but Banks isn't anything special and I feel we are DEFINITELY getting the short end of the stick in terms of talent.

If we want to get rid of Drew, we could definitely get more value closer to the trade deadline when teams are desperate to make a move.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

I don't think this trade makes sense. Yes, you get rid of Damon Jones whom no one likes right now, however, his contract is not nearly as bad as Mark Blount's. He's not even averaging 5 boards a game in 29 minutes. That's pretty low, considering Drew averages almost 10.

I think this trade smacks of desperation and we could get quite a bit more for Gooden if we looked elsewhere.

Re: Boston news paper has us envolved with the Blount trade

I like Blounts shot blocking ability and Banks youth/potential dare I say..

Jones was a mistake signing and too much green and Drew is gone after this year..pull the trigger Ferry
