Have no time to go to the gym anymore, live in a apt so no space for a smith machine etc..

I remember trying the old bowflex versions in the 90s and they were poop.

Anyone use/tried out the newer versions? Are they worth the buy?

No they're not, imo.. Admittedly the newest version I used was 3 years ago, but it was garbage when considering the exorbitant price point. The lifts weren't smooth at all and felt really, well, artificial. You'll get a much better workout from free weights that conveniently slide under the bed (put them on a wrestling mat, that's what I do. Then they slide out very easily and all together as a set).

But it also depends on what you're trying to do, I suppose.. If you're just looking for casual weightlifting to keep tone and in shape, i.e. maintaining your metabolism; then a bowflex is probably sufficient. But if you're going for muscle/weight gains and you want to maximize your workouts, I would strongly recommend free weights if space is an issue. (it is for me, and little time for the gym in this bad economy.)

p.s.
love the sig, btw... but where the f*ck was the Secret Service??!? I hate Bush but he's still the President of the United States, c'mon - can't have him get killed by choking on a shoe.

No. Get the perfect push up, crank out 300-500 3x/week (u'll get up there. It takes a week or so to get use to, but it becomes pretty easy), sit ups, run. That's all you really need. Works out everything

P90x is the way to go

I can vouch, been doing it since April and sold my weight bench. Best results I have ever had and that includes years of going to the gym. If you work, wake up early and dedicate an hour to it and you will see results. That said, it is very hard to stick to.

I've owned one since '97. It has its pro's and cons. What was interesting that I found out was one day I had an avid weightlifter try it out one night and he could NOT master the motion of it. It's a totally different animal than free weights, because you don't have one arm helping to stablize the other in holding the weight, which is a plus in strength. Would I ever buy one again? Prolly not, because the seat kept breaking, but the newer ones look a lot better in quality. I did use it a lot for a couple of years and I can't say I hate it, but I don't love it either.

One thing I would recommend to anyone looking to totally transform their body...and I mean TOTALLY...is P90 X. LOL, I know it's cheesy as hell to do videos, but it is no joke. I dropped 50 lbs in 3 months and was in the best shape of my life and had a ton of energy and strength. All you need is a pull up bar and a pair of dumbells (25-35 lbs.) and it doesnt cost a million dollars and you dont have to replace parts and it doesnt take up space. Quite a commitment though, being as you need to spend an hour a day, 6 days a week, but damn if it ain't effective!

Hope I was of some help.

thx for the elite advice bro's

i'll be looking into this P90x, sounds interesting. Hoping it's not to Rich Simmons

Did you adhere to the strict nutrition plan? I was thinking aobut trying it, I have the DVDs anyone know where I could get the Nutritional plan and calender? Either in real print or pdf format?

No, that plan was too detailed for me personally, but I followed the concept . I ate 6 times a day in small portions. In between meals I would eat a fruit, a bar, or a protein drink ususally. My metabolism was non stop after a while. Not saying no one should follow that specific nutrition plan that they have set up for you, but it was just a bit too much in depth for me to completely follow. Just follow the principle of it. If I had it around I would copy it for you, but I misplaced it a long time ago.

I have a hires scan of the Nutrition Plan but my copy is 200 MB compressed, so you might be better off downloading it yourself from 'the usual places.' (i.e. just search for the torrent for "P90X documents")
