Browns Adding to Game Day Experience

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not advocating one way or the other, as I no longer reside in Cleveland. However, all recent research refutes what you are saying; Publicly funding stadiums for billionaires, and a non-profit organization like the NFL (i.e. non taxed organization), is slowly being proven to be one of the most fiscally irresponsible thing cities can do. There is a direct correlation between bankrupt cities and publicly funded stadiums; the dollars spent by citizens are never matched by the amount of "tourism" or "event" cash brought in by the stadium. These leagues rely on the fear of relocation in order to take advantage of working class and city dwellers. There is little doubt that investing in they city's infrastructure and education systems would be a far better long term plan to improve the city...but long term investments are never shiny and attractive; not to mention that elected city officials would be run out of town should we lose a sports franchise that is costing the city millions, and therefore do whatever is needed in the short-term to stay in office;

Even Jerry Jones, who self-funded his billion dollar stadium did so with the veil of a lifetime tax abatement...a lifetime tax abatement that the people of Arlington will pick up the slack for at the tune of $6M per year....

Essentially, the NFL specifically, and sports franchises in general, rely on people thinking you should pony up some of your hard earned working class dollars, in order to line the pockets of a few select billionaires.

you mean the upper 1% of this country continue to look for ways to fuck over the other 99%.... i for one am.... well not shocked.

that said ocelot nailed this one "Could someone please make a coherent argument about how upgrades to inside the stadium are going to bring more people downtown?"

its not, people will continue to go to browns games because well.. its the browns. even if the stadium sucks people will continue to show. from everything i have read the ravens play in a top 10 stadium (i guess it was pretty cool?) but people dont go to ravens games because of the stadium, they go because its the ravens. city of cleveland, save your money

New scoreboards and other aesthetic things will make the atmosphere more electric and the game more engaging. Plus, they're bringing the seats in more towards the field, so the whole experience will be louder. I guarantee the Browns have at least two nationally televised games next season and I'd go further to say that the game will be on NBC or ESPN. That is what the improvements will do. The NFL clearly doesn't think fondly of the team or the opportunity to bring their cameras to Cleveland and these upgrades may just change that.

Went to one Browns game and never wanted to return. And we won. Atmosphere is terrible. New scoreboards isn't going to change the atmosphere.

Wow, you obviously didn't do something right.

No way in hell I can go into that stadium, especially with a win, and not have a fucking blast. Being around drunken Browns fans, barking your asses off. Fantastic.

So people really do bark at the game? How does that feel?

I've been going to Browns games for years. My first game I went to was with my dad back in 1999 when the Titans were in our division. We got absolutely destroyed. I had such a fun time.

Ever since I went to college I've come up for at least a game every year. Last year's steelers game was the first victory I've ever seen live, and this years Bengals game was the second. I honestly don't know how you can not have fun at a Browns game. It's mind boggling to me.

Well when someone says "Here we go Brownies! Here we go!"... what the fuck else are you going to do? You gotta give a Woof Woof!

I feel that Corey just likes things a certain way. There was probably too much "fun" and explicit language for his liking. I'm sure he tallied how many "reports" he needed to make, in his head. This included seat numbers and a description of the offender(s).

I do feel that you need to know what you're walking into with the Browns atmosphere. Browns fans are a special breed. It is too much for some... and by some, I mean Corey.

This is my 3rd season with 1/2 season tickets.. Me & a buddy of mine go to 4 home games a year (Well, 5.. Either 4 regular season + 1 preseason or 5 reg season). Sit 1 section to the left of the dawg pound. Nothing beats it, especially when the Browns are playing good football, the crowd atmosphere is like no other.

So people really do bark at the game? How does that feel?

Fucking orgasmic

If you don't have fun at a Browns game especially when they win you are 1. sober or 2. not a Browns fan

Eh, kinda disagree here. They had 5 national TV games in 2008 and it was because the team was good the previous season and had high expectations in 2008. I don't think the stadium has anything to do with it at all.

Yeah, when you don't have a good one it doesn't matter. When you're the Seahawks and are an up and coming team, stadium is a cherry-on-top. That's just a fact. I guarantee that the Falcons get games based solely on their new stadium when it happens.

Good stadiums DO affect how entertainment companies view bringing their business there. It'd be inhuman to think that they have blinders to it.

Been to 3 games this year. Don't remember a minute of it and I loved every minute of it.

Thats great, but the people paying for these upgrades to make the game better should Jimmy and the fans in the form of higher ticket prices. Not a city wide tax because it doesn't really benefit the city as some have pointed out.

And how do you know that it won't be?

We could have our answer on the financials today. Rumors are floating around that the Browns were requesting $42 million dollars in assistance from the city.

Breakdown:

$120M = total
-
$62.5M = NFL Loan to be paid off by the Organization
$42M = Requested amount to be paid by city (rumor/speculation)
= $15.5M immediate investment by ownership (for a total of $78M+interest total investment by ownership)
