It was reported yesterday that the NE QB would accept the franchise tag offer from the Patriots. That’s a pretty good payday for someone who hadn’t started a game since high school as of 12 months ago. So why is this good for us?

Simple. It takes the list of solid FA QB’s and deletes one of, if not the best. As a result, the value of DA goes up on the open market.

Mangini was ho-hum about the QB situation during his presser a few days ago, but all signs point to one of them being gone before the draft. I will assume that’s going to be Anderson for obvious reasons. The real question is what type of value DA will yield. Will they be ‘09 picks, or incentive based for the upcoming season. If so, the picks for us will come in 2010 and beyond.

Some say he’ll fetch a 2nd rounder. Some say he won’t fetch better than a 4th. That quite the margin.

While we’re in desperate need of picks in this year’s draft, I think you have look at an incentive based trade if it’s on the table. I don’t think DA is going to go play in NY, TB, or MIN and fall apart. If he’s in a system and town that actually gets behind him, he can be very successful. If that would benefit us in future drafts, I say go for it.

Nothing less than a 3rd in ‘09 otherwise.
