Browns Free Agency 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If the Browns make a pitch to Suh, which they absolutely will, he'll take credit for "breaking" it. That's iBob stuff there.

If you look at the roster, the Browns have both Sheard and Rubin as unrestricted free agents this coming offseason. That's essentially 10 mil in cap hits gone from the defensive line. Assuming the Browns bring in a run-stuffer in the first half of the draft, that FA money can certainly be used on Suh. It'd also add to the attitude of the defense, which I feel is something Pettine would want in the AFC North.

Suh has his issues, but there's no denying his talent. What are his chances of leaving Detroit without a high tag attached, anyways?

Would cost them $25 million or so, so I think he's got a chance at leaving.

For my money, I'd put Cleveland roughly 25th-35th on likely destinations if he does.

Somewhere slightly above the Toronto Argonauts, but below UFC.

Well with the price tag likely coming in at $20+ million there are only a handful of suitors that can afford him without leveraging their entire roster.

The Browns (projected 4th in available cap space and with a glaring need at DT) are one of them.

You're being just a bit facetious.

I understand the fit, in terms of needing a DL and having the cap space.

I also understand that Cleveland ranks pretty low on the popularity scale amongst free agents. With Suh going to receive top dollar from whichever suitor he chooses, Cleveland will be well down the list.

Teams can cut and add intelligently, I doubt there will be any lack of creativity to get Suh under a salary cap.

I agree with B00bie in that the destination is not going to be high on Suh's list.

I don't think the Browns are going to go after him either. I get the feeling that Farmer is more of a team guy rather than a acquire talent guy. By that I mean, he looks at the position group rather than the individual talents. So he may look at the D Line and allocate X amount of cap dollars to it like most GMs do. He'd rather use that money on getting quality guys at every position both starting and depth than to acquire 1 dominant high priced guy and surround him with replacement level players. To me that's the smart way to play it anyway. High priced FAs have a long history of not living up to the money but if you can augment your depth in FA and get the talent in the draft then you are on to something.

I also didn't think Mario Williams would sign with the Buffalo Bills, but shit happens.

I just wouldn't call it impossible is all.

Damn I would love to get Cobb, but after the year he had, he is going to go for a decent amount. But through the draft would probably be better and spend $ elsewhere.

It is important to mention that Suh has been a 4-3 defensive tackle his entire career. He is great at overpowering his man and getting after the quarterback, but that is more the role of an end in the 3-4.

A better fit in free agency might be Damon Harrison of the Jets. A true nose tackle who led all defensive tackles in stops against the run (31). He weighs 350 pounds and his knickname is Big Snacks. If there is a defensive shakeup with the Jets, he will be a hot commodity.

Obviously Keys is just attracted by his +11.5 PFF rating in just under 500 snaps this season. :chuckle:

Will be interesting to see what tender NYJ has in store for him, I'd imagine it will be enough to keep teams away.

I had no idea about PFF, but I agree that Big Snacks is very underrated. Sacks get headlines, but a nose tackle who stuffs the run would be a better match for the Browns needs. I'm sick of average running backs destroying us.

If this defense could stop the run they could be top 5 in the league. Right now their above average secondary and pass rush gets a bit overshadowed by their ability to let Alfred Blue have a career day.

Make efforts to re-sign:
-Skrine: unless some team makes him a ree dik offer
-Robertson: I had him as one of the worst ILBs in the league last year; happy to be proven wrong. RFA.
-Gipson: Finally a ball-hawking FS!
Short-term offers on guys we'd like:
-Bademosi: good ST guy
-Miles Austin: good, senior WR to have with the youngins
-Cameron: Browns-friendly deal based on concussion Hx and general fragility
-Lanning: Unless we can get a P with a super human leg, continuity is fine here
-Kitchen: nice rotational guy
-Solomon: Sure, give him a two year deal for his end of season efforts alone!

Good bye: Sheard, Rubin, Hoyer, and the rest of the UFAs

1) DL: Probably not Suh, but I was thinking to throw some cash at Dan Williams (AZ); however, the Big Snacks suggestion is starting to grow on me. NYJ will most likely move to a style of 43 if, and when, Dan Quinn gets the gig.
2) OL: James Carpenter might be an interesting pick. I'd love Bulaga to sign with us, and become entrenched at RT, but I don't think GB will let him go.
3) WR/TE: Way too early to think about these guys lol
4) QB is first need, but there isn't much to get excited about....Ryan Mallett UFA?

I have some interest in the 6'3 330 pound Denver defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, aka, Pot Roast. I do prefer Big Snacks to Pot Roast.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...roast-super-bowl-48-media-day-denver/4943123/

So how did the 6-3, 330-pound, fifth-year defensive tackle come by his moniker?

"It was on a flight coming back from Seattle my rookie year in Jacksonville,'' Knighton said. "It was a six-hour flight. Guys were tired. The plane was dark and the lady was walking down the aisle, saying, "Pot Roast? Pot Roast?'
"And I'm like, 'Right here.' My teammate behind me said, 'You say that like that's your name?'
"He said, 'I'm going to call you Pot Roast from now on.' I said, 'Yeah, whatever.'

"So it stuck to me.'''

Knighton paused before adding, "It was either that or Shrimp Alfredo.'''
