Presser got weird towards the end talking about the Rooney Rule and if his being a minority candidate was an elephant in the room during interviews.

Really bizarre questions, but he did a good job of kind of brushing them off

I think that Ray won that interview. Very certain and almost stern. I appreciate the honesty.

I cannot express how much I love these answers.

Not sticking to 1 scheme, playing to his players' strengths, not completely overhauling the personnel.

Sheard will break out under Horton, undoubtedly.

I knew Horton would run a multiple defense scheme, said it in another thread. Perfect fit. Love this shit.

Go get Horton a pass-rusher please.

Don't fuck it up, Lombardi.

He's already 1000% better of a head coach NOW that Pat Shurmur based on this alone.

Meh, he said the right things. His prior history speaks for itself, he gets his guys to play, they improved fundamentally in AZ and he isn't afraid to rush. All positives. Hopefully he isn't here in two years because he gets hired as a HC somewhere, and not due to the usual binge/purge of Browns football.

Out of all the players in Horton's system, I'm easily the most excited for Ward. It's just a perfect fit; while he's turned into one of the better safeties in the league when matched up against TE's, he always seemed to make stuff happen when he was sent on blitzes. In Jauron's conservative style he didn't do it as much as I'd have liked, but I'm pretty excited to see what Horton is going to dial up to get him making plays at the line of scrimmage.

Agreed i think Ward will excell at playing near the LOS and that he could very well do what Adrian Wilson did when he was in Arizona...

I am a big T.J. Ward fan so I am excited to see him in this system. I think he is at his best when he is allowed to play aggressively. I am hoping to see him sneaking up into the box more often this year.

Good stuff on Horton from clevelandbrowns.com

Horton embraces Cleveland's passion
Posted Mar 22, 2013
By Matt Florjancic, Staff Writer

Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is amazed and excited about the passion he has seen from fans since arriving in Cleveland.

When describing his style of coaching and what he expects out of his players, Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton said only one word: pressure.

When it comes to describing the fans with whom he has interacted since joining the Browns in January, Horton was equally succinct. He said the first thing he noticed about Browns fans was their passion.

“That’s probably been the best surprise for me, the fans,” Horton said. “I met fans at the airport and they said, ‘I’m a season-ticket holder.’ I always ask, ‘Where do you sit?’ Guys are in row three of section 107, which is on the visitor’s side, the Dawg Pound, row seven. It’s really nice to see the fans be excited in January and February about football that’s going on here in Cleveland.”

In his 29 years in the NFL, 19 as a coach and 10 as a player, Horton has honed his crafts in front of some of the most passionate fans in the league. He played in Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, and coached in Washington, Cincinnati, Detroit, Arizona and Pittsburgh.

Although he has been in Cleveland for a short amount of time, Horton puts Browns fans at the top of his list when it comes to their passion for football.

“I think it’s more so here,” Horton said of the comparison between cities. “In January and February, the fans are in the airport. The fans are at a Brown Derby restaurant where the owner walked up the very first day I got here and said, ‘Welcome to Cleveland, Coach.’ I'm thinking, ‘How do you know who I am? I just got here today.’ The fans are fantastic. They’re craving a winner. They’ve had a winner in the past and they’re loyal fans that want us to win. I think we’ll get that message to the players of what Cleveland’s all about.”

The passion Horton sees in the fans is not unlike the one he has for coaching. Horton’s drive to “work, work, work, work, work, work, work,” was enhanced during the offseason, when the Browns added three defensive players in the first two days of free agency -- linebackers Paul Kruger & Quentin Groves and tackle Desmond Bryant.

“When the front office produces like they did for us, all that work, it paid off,” Horton said. “They’re dedicated to winning, and that’s the thing I like. Our organization is dedicated to winning and they want to put a winner on the field.”

^ Whoever the guy is that has the third row seats in 107 is probably smiling ear to ear right now.

Half of my lips are missing, so I'm smiling ear to mid-nose.
