Browns hire Rob Chudzinski

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I come into this thread thinking i will get an update on our coaching staff. Silly me, i should have known i was just going to find a bunch of guys cyber peacocking.

Let's cut the crap and get back on topic...especially since McCoy was hired in SD. DC should become clear very soon.

Which is what I tried to do on the last page.....anyhow....

I'm thinking Pagano is gonna be the man. He just fits. Aggressive. Some shared history with the rest of the staff. I can't find the same links with McCoy, so it seems pretty likely he's headed this way.

Even with the news of McCoy taking the job in SD, it was stated this morning (on twitter) that the Browns haven't yet asked permission to interview John Pagano. I'm guessing that they've been told to wait on him until they hire a head coach and make their own decisions internally.

Well, ya. But, the point being there doesn't seem to be any link between McCoy and Pagano, and there are a bunch here. I wouldn't be surprised if McCoy turned to now DL Coach Mike Trgovac in GB. The two served on Fox's staff in CAR for a long time together. Trgovac had some great success there as a DC, as well. Seems like a great fit.

Great insight here. I didn't make my post to refute yours or anything, I just felt (and feel) like things wouldn't get past a certain point until McCoy has enough time to thoroughly lay out his plan.

Oh, I know. Wasn't trying to sound defensive or anything. Just seems like the chips are all falling into place now. I'm really hoping now that everything is beginning to shake out that this means we won't see Tucker here. I love the guy as a DB coach, just don't like that bend but don't break D he's oft associated with.

Not sure he really deserves that label.

Not easy to be aggressive when you've literally never had a pass-rusher worth much of anything. You've got to play with the players you've got.

Eh, maybe, maybe not. But, that whole coaching tree has never really deserved the description of aggressive, either. You don't have to have Lawrence Taylor on your team to be aggressive. It just seems like their mentality/make-up to back off in attempts at avoiding the big play. You don't see a lot of exotic looks, much blitzing, etc. I think most of the creativity you see in those D's comes from attempts at confusing QB's with varying coverage schemes. Don't get me wrong, there are elements of it that are great, and had Peyton Manning confused for many a game, but I just don't like the overall philosophy.

Tucker has done a fantastic job in Jacksonville, considering the talent level. Going from assistant head coach to just the defensive coordinator could potentially be an issue for a fast-rising young coach. He deserves some looks as a head coach in the NFL, which might be one of the hold ups. Still, we are talking about a native Clevelander who might give the Browns a hometown discount if he remains a coordinator.

Get Mel Tucker, get him an effective pass rusher and watch.

He'll blossom into a legitimate head coach candidate in a damn hurry. Players love him and has worked under some very good football people.

Tucker has really done a solid job at every stop. He'd be a great pick up except I doubt it's long before he gets offered a promotion.

That sucks. I thought Pagano would be a great fit.

Tucker had 1 good season out of 4 in JAX as their DC. Give him a good pass rusher? Well, you could say that for a lot of DC's.

I like the guy. I like the heritage with OSU and CLE. Just less than warm to him as filling this aggressive DC role.
