BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm sure Stefanski watched film of both Hunt and Chubb in the same backfield at the same time. Very few teams can roll out a backfield where both backs can be a triple threat to run, catch and block without bruised egos. Of course, there is also insurance in place that if one gets hurt, the other becomes the featured back with Janovich increasing snaps.

Come to think of it, when the Browns face Baltimore this weekend, we will face the other team who feature a lot of traditional pro sets with a strong one-two punch with Dobbins and Ingram.

I am putting contracts out of my mind until I hear otherwise, but I've never believed Hunt will get big offers elsewhere. He needs a support system and the Browns have been active in creating that support system.

Until it actually happens, color me very skeptical that Chubb and Hunt are actually going to be in the the backfield at the same time all that often.

I understand playing to your personnel's strengths and all that, but the Kubiak/Shanahan system has never been particularly big on it before.

Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I think this is going to be a lot more of a straight up Chubb is the starting RB, Hunt is the backup RB situation with a roughly 70/30 split.

Chubb around 22 touches a game and Hunt around 10.

Stefanski definitely didn't do it with the Vikings, so you do have a point. The total wear and tear is certainly an issue, and the two tight end looks are going to be more prevailing. I'm still hopeful to see it, especially against high scoring opponents. The best weapon on this offense is doing the same thing over and over to perfection out of different looks with a variety of personnel on the field.

I agree, though I do hope Stefanski is true to his constant saying of being "multiple".

I'm as huge of a fan of the zone blocking scheme as anyone. Call me a disciple. But there's gonna be some games when some strong defenses can smother many of those plays. It happened with Minnesota last year, it has happened with Shanahan countless times. One of the few bright spots of 2019 is the shotgun 2 RB formation we used and you could tell defenses at times had trouble defending it. If expanded on it could be pretty deadly.

I want us to be able to drive up and down the field without having to rely on twin-TE sets with hard play-action rollouts as a crutch. One thing I like about Stef is that he is very meticulous with his schemes and strategies. I think we're in good hands.

I would hope porter Gustin is actually 3rd string DE with Clayborn coming in at either side.

If you believe in the general accuracy of those, it could lead you to believe that Jacob Phillips will get the start in place of Mack Wilson. Though I doubt we have 3 LBs on the field a ton at the same time
I think everyone who has complained that we don't have any linebackers counted Phillips out.

He's a rookie, and he's young. So it's going to be a rough year one--but I like him more than Takitaki moving forward.

I am curious which of the linebackers will be the odd man or odd men out when the Browns play nickel/dime.

None of Phillips, Goodson or Takitaki have shown much coverage chops in college or the pros.

Maybe the plan is to use Joseph/Sendejo/Harrison in a 3 safety look.

You never know with Hunt what kind of hometown discount applies. Some guys are just more comfortable where they grew up. He may stick around and play whatever role he gets in this offense.

3 safeties who aren’t good in coverage. That’ll be a problem.
