If you are building a multi-use stadium and want to lure 30k medical sales reps for a convention, you need to be thinking about them just as much as the guy living in Parma who starts to tailgate at 9am every Sunday nine weeks a year for football.
So now this place is going to poach from the IX Center AND the convention center downtown?

While I know the area will get built up, right now that area isn't even appealing. It's car dealerships and strip clubs. The Marriott that was basically on airport property is getting demolished for a parking garage. Right now no one wants to stay in that area even if they fly in to the airport.

I would be concern with being able to get and then keep events for things like conventions because I could see people complaining about other stuff to do in that area.

It always was going to. There are only so many concerts and monster truck rallies to go around. Conventions, meetings, graduations where the stadium can be divided up.

The IX Center has been on and off the chopping block ever since Hopkins' 2002 master plan for runway construction. I doubt that runway extension ever materializes. But the IX Center area will be needed for staging once the airport's new terminal renovations start up.

Also a lot of eastsiders hate driving out to the airport and the west side in general. I could see a lot of eastsiders voting against the dome because they rather go downtown to watch the Browns even outside than drive or take the rta to the airport.

It's convenient for westsiders but it becomes a lot less convenient for eastsiders. I also think local Cleveland politicians will tell their voting base to vote no on the dome.

Funny, because I always hated going to the East side.

Don't kill this dream of ours!

Yeah this place should be in city limits.

Yea I know people that live on the west side hate coming to the east side too. It's just not a pleasant drive either way. Opportunity corridor has made it a little easier at least going from east to west inside the city of Cleveland and the near by suburbs.

I think going downtown is typically the limit for most people and anything beyond that just gets annoying.

West siders and South siders unite.

Everyone just hates driving out to the East side because Chester isn't a highway.

I give a shit and plenty of others do too since we’re debating this.
We are talking about a sports stadium and something that, many here, have said isn't that beneficial to the City if it's not within the limits. So why should I care if the City isn't willing to work on a solution to help the Browns find a new spot for a stadium?

This goes back to the White administration and giving the Cavs and Guards preferential treatment over the Browns.
Kind of a shitty thing to say for stating my opinion.
I regret my use of words, I apologize.
God forbid the Bibb administration doesn’t want to bow down to the almighty billionaire.
There is a difference between "bowing down" and flat out refusing to help. They want the Browns to stay downtown, but the only option given to the team by the city is renovation. And that's simply not an option that works for anyone. The Browns don't want it, the fans don't want it, and truthfully, I doubt the city wants it either.
No clue how they expect Brook Park of all places to help pitch in but go for it.
Just so we are clear, I expect the State to be a much bigger help than either city.
Doesn’t matter about major roadways, you're going to have awful traffic because that’s how it works, it’s like when they add a lane to a highway, just keep creating more demand. What do I know though. Never too late to change course FYI.
Okay? And? It's a major sporting event, and instead of having to fight with the 20k going to a Cavs game or Guardians game, now all this infrastructure is going to be geared towards getting butts in seats before the opening kickoff.

Once again, why would we cater to people that don’t even live in the region?

Honestly, the reason you care for those not in the region is because of revenue to the county. You build a stadium that can host other events in a more friendly area to get to and Cuyahoga county benefits in the name of millions of dollars of revenue brought in by the stadium district.

Brook Park makes a ton of sense from many angles, just isnt as romantic as keeping the Browns downtown, but most romances die because of finances, and Brook Park is the way to go from a financial stand point from many angles. Tourism is a major industry that helps out everyone that lives in the area.

A dome isn't beneficial to the city even built in the city unless the Haslams pony up most of the money for it. Stop subsidizing billionaires. I don't want to hear about a handful of events that could happen there. Just use the IX center. Taylor Swift ain't coming to Cleveland.

Jimmy you don't need a dome. Stop trying to take advantage of the city

Just so we’re clear, I’m on team keeping the stadium in city limits, not just downtown.

I’m going to bow out of this though, I’m clearly in the minority of thinking that things shouldn’t be sprawled out, especially in this region of the subsidized suburbs cannibalize everything.

Cleveland should adopt the Columbus policy of annexing local cities.

No inner ring suburb other than East Cleveland would think being swallowed into Cleveland proper is a good plan for their community. Who is forcing Shaker and Lakewood into Cleveland city limits? How does Rocky River react to Cleveland city limits being across the Rocky River/Detroit Road bridge?

Interesting fact: the original Rocky River bridge at time of building was the longest concrete arch bridge in the world.
