Browns Training Camp 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Two of those guys were on the roster last year and I definitely thought Hunt's presence was badly missed.

D'Ernest was great but feel like he and Hunt bring different things to the table. Ford seems promising but the guy's a 5th round rookie that we haven't seen play a down yet. And Felton...I guess you maybe see something in him that I do not.

I guess agree or disagree, this trio is probably going to need to step up if Hunt gets shipped out.

The fact that we retained Johnson and drafted Ford pretty much tells us that the team doesn't think Felton is much of anything. I don't think he's anywhere close to a lock to make the final roster. Seems like he's our RB5 right now and I'm not sure he can crack the WR rotation either. Cooper, Bell, DPJ, Schwartz, and Grant are all clearly going to make the team over Felton, and given the buzz from camp, I'd say Woods has a damn good shot of making the team as well.

Are we going to keep more than three-four RBs and five to six WRs? Where does Felton fit in if not?

Sure, but I think a big part of that was QB related.

I could be wrong, but in spite of his reputation of being a QB who liked spreading the ball around, to me Mayfield seemed always most comfortable throwing to a select few guys (Landry and Hunt specifically) as his security blankets and it was quite noticeable when those guys weren't on the field.

I'm generally less concerned about those types of issues with Watson moving forward.

And I also think Brissett's gonna be pretty bad regardless, so unloading Hunt a year before he's walking anyway is fine by me if Watson's not going to be playing.

What's a return even look like for Hunt? He's a #1 back for half of the league, maybe more.
When the Browns traded Duke Johnson to Houston in 2019 for a conditional 4th (later became a 3rd), I remember it was the highest compensation a team had received for a RB since the Trent Richardson trade. FWIW- that pick became Jacob Phillips

It looks like since then, the highest compensation trade was Sony Michel for a 5th and 6th

Obviously Hunt is a much better player, but I don't think a team is going to go nuts, especially considering Hunt does come with some baggage given his past. I'd be surprised to see a 4th or higher, if they trade him.

Hunt is coming off a season where he only played half the games. Not a very wise time for this move from him, sounds like he won't overplay his hand.

I have a different opinion on this. Hunt's value to this year's team is dependent on both injuries and on the length of Watson's suspension. If Chubb or DEJ get dinged then obviously Hunt's value goes way up for this organization. I think Hunt also has value for any games where Brissett is QB1, whether that's 6 games or 12 games, because I would expect us to be a run heavy team. If the Watson suspension ends up being the whole season then hopefully we bring in Jimmy G in which case I thing Hunt would have a lot of value as well.

If Watson's out for the year and we decide to completely punt on the whole season by sticking with Brissett, then I guess Hunt or no Hunt doesn't matter. But IMO that would be a very bad look for the organization.

I could see a scenario where another borderline playoff team not in our conference gets an injury and we sell high on a Hunt trade sometime before the deadline.

We'll see what happens.

My expectation at this point is for Watson to be out for the season and for the Browns to not pursue Jimmy G.

Things could change of course, but I've already all but written off this season in my head.

For some reason I always mix their names up.

Jordan Phillips and Jacob Elliot.
I always have to look how many "L's" are in Phillips's name. That's the first time I've mixed up the first names. I should've just blamed autocorrect, but it was really just carelessness.

Jordan Phillips is a 2nd round DT from Oklahoma.

I agree with you. But seeing it written out like that is pretty jarring.

I’d still do the Watson trade 11 times out of 10 even with a full season suspension.

Having said that, the idea that Jimmy G is going to be available as a more than capable bridge QB is an extremely enticing “have our cake and eat it too” scenario.

I have to think there is a way to bring Jimmy in without incurring a huge future financial impact. Especially with Watson’s contract potentially tolling.

I think somewhat salvaging the season from hopeless (Brissett) to decent division contention odds (Jimmy) is worth it. There’s just too much talent on this roster to throw away the season before it starts. It’s such a disservice to these guys.

If Jimmy G gets waived, how much money do you expect that it would take to bring him in on a 1 year "We will show case you" deal? $10Mil? $15Mil?

I gotta think that a team like Seattle might try to sweep in with a multi year offer.

After all, Trubisky got 2 years, $14Mil + up to $4Mil in bonuses.
