Didn't see this posted any where or not. I hope that nobody here has family up in Buffalo as they are getting pounded with snow. They are excepting 70 inches by tomorrow. Here are some pics I saw on twitter under the hashtag #buffalosnow

the Niagara women's basketball team has been trapped in a bus for 24 hours due to the storm

why would people live in places like this

That's exactly why I don't live in a place like that. We get snow here maybe three times a year...two to four inches. The city shuts down and I get to work from home because literally no one here knows how to drive in anything other than perfect weather conditions (and even then most of them are terrible drivers). It's great.

Hell, last year we had a day where we got four inches of snow in the morning up until around one, then by four it was fifty degrees and all the snow was melting. Spent lunch drinking beers out in the dog park with my friends and throwing snowballs at the light rail every time it passed. :chuckle:

You act like getting blasted with the occasional hurricane is a tremendous consolation prize. Hurricanes suck and they're something that no Buffalo or Cleveland resident need to worry about. Each place in this Country has it's downfalls, it's up to everyone to decide what they dislike the most. Snow doesn't bother me, nor does driving in it.

We don't get many hurricanes in Charlotte. We're about four hours from the ocean, after all.

You got Isabella. When they hit, it's worse than a winter.

Well, technically I didn't get Isabel, as that was eleven years ago and I was starting my freshman year of college at Bowling Green at the time. Also, a quick google search indicates that the impact to Charlotte was minimal at best. It probably just felt like a bigger than usual thunderstorm. The outer banks were the area that got hit hard, and those are pretty far from here.

I had to chuckle, I was not here when it happened, so to me it is not a big deal. It is like those who live in LA and say I missed the big earthquake in the 90's so I am not worried about it effecting me as it was in the past. The point being made, is every area has some risk for natural disasters.

Again, it sounds like there wasn't really any impact on Charlotte. Googling "hurricane isabel charlotte" doesn't really bring up anything substantial, and Charlotte isn't even mentioned in the Wiki entry for the hurricane. The only hurricane I could find that did any real damage here was Hugo back in 1989, and even that was just felled trees and power outages.

The biggest thing we're at risk for here is ice storms like that one that shut down Atlanta last year since the city doesn't have the equipment to properly deal with something like that. It's the same reason why a few inches of snow can effectively close the entire city.

Some lit...

The only hurricane listing on that entire page that mentions Charlotte is the entry for Hugo, which I already mentioned above.

I contend that Charlotte is plenty impacted by Hurricanes. If it's "just a thunderstorm" to you, it means you don't see it as a big problem compared to snow in winter. For me, I appreciate never having this issue to worry about.

Winter is a choice, I don't feel bad for these people after being 3 years removed from the Snow Belt.
