Carter not on Cavs Radar

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really believe we are going to stand pat now. Which is sad.

Why do you people want a trade so badly? I guess a 23-4 record is not good enough?! Lets place the Cavs future in the hands of a 31 year old who has 4 years left on his contract. :thumbdown

I'm sure every single Cavalier die-hard will agree that this tremendous start this season is damn near good enough. However, we will not win a championship with the current roster. I maybe wrong, we could.. But I honestly do not think we can. We could probably give Boston a ride, but I think if we want to put this team over the top we are going to need another star-like player. Honestly doesn't even have to be a star, just someone who can score the basketball and play some defense.

Our future is in the hands of No.23, not a 31 year old guard, so I don't get what you're talking about there.

I think we can win it all with the current roster, but it would just be a much easier victory with a VC caliber player.

So do you guys really think Wally being burned on defense is a benefit to this team? You think him missing shots would help us win? What if there were another player that stops one of the key players on the other team from destroying us while actually hitting shots? A guy that can make a difference vs Wally. No dis-respect to him at all, he was a good player and seems like a good locker room guy but I'd rather have someone good.

I hate hearing this stuff about how good we are now. no matter how good a team is ,there is always room for improvement and this is one of the places we need improvement.

I think that we can beat any team. We took the Celtics to 7 games last year with a new team and without Mo. We didn't have Gibson for game 7 and Wally scored 0 points I believe starting. Think about it, if LeBron wouldn't have played so poorly in game 1 or 2 we probably would've won the series. As long as nobody gets injured against the Celtics I think we will win this year. Wally is not a starter and I don't believe he will get many minutes. Delonte shut down Ray last year and unlike last year everyone knows their role on the team.

I do not want Vince Carter he would just screw us over long term. Marion is supposedly a solid defender but I don't think that he would be better than Varejao and Wally. Be patient wait for the offseason.

I'm glad we took Boston, but so did Atlanta. We were obviously closer to beating Boston than The Hawks, however it just shows that Boston had struggles early on during the playoffs. And Delonte shut down Ray? I doubt that.. I think Allen's shot was just horribly off in the first two rounds, and any Celtic fan can tell you he was a different player in the ECF and the NBA Finals.

Though I agree if James didn't play so poorly in Game's 1 and 2 we might have won that series, actually, we would've won that series. I think we can come close, if not beat Boston.. But would you rather say you think we could, or be positive about it? I think I'd rather be positive about. It'd also be hard to pass up dealing Wally for a guy like Redd, Carter, Amare, whoever is on the block...

We're not beating Boston if Wally is playing 18 minutes per game against them. It's that simple. Why not acquire MUCH better talent if you can? I am sick of hearing this chemistry excuse. Wally is a stiff and everyone on our team knows it. Nobody will miss his ass slapping.

How interesting is a forum that does not talkabout change?

That said Idon't think we stand pat with Wally. This is about salary cap management and future years as much as this year. Wally is not worth the value of his contract, so if we were to resign him it woudl be for less than the midlevel exception. Because we are over the cap we lose the ability to spend the difference in Wally's contract and what he could be resigned for at a true market value. When you trade Wally's contract what you get back is a contract that is longer (preferably expiring next year) and a young player that is not a franchise player but has potential to be a good role player. You could also trade for an longer contract with a player which is a problem with his existing team (like Randolph for example) but I don't think the cavs would do that. If you are lucky your big contract guy might be a good sixth man choice. If you add picks to the deal, you get a better big contract guy from a team in rebuild.

So where does that leave us?

Expiring next year

Joe Johnson Stays in Atlanta
Larry Hughes Not happening
TMac 23 million, woudl require more than wally
Camby Possible
Marquis Daniels Need a why
Dark Milicic Possible (though nobody here wants him. I could see darko and warrick for wally and JJ)
Mark Blount Might not be a bad choice
Mike Miller Already discussed to death
Bobby Simmons With Josh Boone (would you do it?)
Al Harrington Only working part for Knicks
Q Rich with David Lee?
Turoglu Never happen
Shaq 21 million
Nash In a heart beat. Would phoenix give him up woudl require picks?
Brad Miller Possible
Kenny Thomas more likely than miller, needs a really good young player in combo
Ginobli How far have the spurs fallen? Pavs Gibson and Wally for this
Jermain Oniel Need a really good reason
Boozer file with Hughes
Okur Stays in Utah
Eitan Thomas Need a really good reason.

There will be flames and flames with this list. But the sense in which I offer it is that these players fit the contract description that woudl make sense for us. Whether any particular deal gets done is a combination of what comes with each player and the source team's strategy and situation.

I think by now, anyone would be totally shocked to see us get Carter.

1) They dont wanna trade him. They could easily make the playoffs this year and who cares if they know they cant win it all, thats not how it works. THey gotta sell tickets and it would be suicidal to break up possibly the best backourst in the NBA with Vince and Harris.

2) If they do, for some reason, decide to make Vince available, why in hell would they suddenly feel like trading him here for Wally Szczerbiak? Everyone knows we aint gonna be breaking apart this core for ANYONE in a trade. That means guys like Varejao and Hickson arent even possibilities, which means Vince aint a possibility.

He aint even an option anymore.

wait, what are you talking about? I was under the impression they were in rebuild mode and working around Devin Harris.

^Agreed. I think they'd like to shed VC's huge contract so they can rebuild around Harris.. At this point I'd be willing to trade Wally for Vince. We may be taking a huge risk by doin so, but I'd much rather get consistent production from Vince as opposed to getting very minimal production from a combination of pavlovic and wally.

LOL...I flat out laughed when I read this.....funny, but on-point!!!

Why do we need a trade?
IMO two teams stand in our way .
Orlando and Boston and in a lesser sense Detriot.
They have two of the most athletic bigs in Howard/KG

Out in the Western Conference it's SA/LA/NO that bug me.. SA doesn't show their true self till playoff time..

These teams also have nimble swing players that create problems..I want a player who can come in and matchup against them ...that is why we need another body in here..

We need a trade because wally is not good at what he does anymore. If he can't hit the open J, he is useless and having his worst career shooting season would say he's just not good anymore.

If we can find a place to send him, awesome, but as Gimme Mo said, we don't want a guy that can't guard key positions (SG or SF) playing against Ray Allen who will hit the J if given a few cm of space or Paul Pierce, who is a bitch.

The main point is that his production is not worth his contract size and if you complain about heat checks, this is the guy. Every time LeBron is off the floor, Wally takes it upon himself to do a few heat checks, problem is, he missed the last four shots.

Anyway, if we can get a player that can produce to match his contract, and do it for wally's expiring, it would definitely ake us a better team .
