Casspi Requests Trade

Can some moderator please take this thread out back and put it out of its misery?

"Of course, I like Cleveland," Casspi said before the Cavs faced the Bulls at the United Center. "Cleveland has been great to me. The fans, the city, the organization. That's where I'm focused. I don't have any other focus but help my team win. Whatever the future holds will happen."

Before Monday, Casspi had fallen out of coach Byron Scott's rotation and, except for one minute against Indiana on Dec. 21, he hadn't played significant minutes since playing 12 in the victory over the Lakers on Dec. 11. He is averaging 4.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game. He has played 19 games, started one, and is shooting 39 percent overall, and 44 percent from 3-point range.

"He hasn't done anything [to prompt a demotion]," Scott said Monday. "It's just the number of guys we have at that position. Omri's been great. . . . As far as him playing and things like that, he's probably going to get another shot at it. It's just a matter of time and me finagling some other lineups and things like that. As far as I know, he's been great."

Scott said Casspi has not been disgruntled in practice.

"By no means," the coach said. "He's been great at practice. He's been great in the games, cheering for his teammates. He's been a true professional in every sense of the word, I expect him to continue to be that way."

Funnier than any joke posted in this thread...that is awesome. Never realized I was a true professional NBA player too, I have been great in games cheering for the Cavs also.

My pro skills have really slacked off this year - even nodded off at times during games. I'm hoping the Cavs offer me a buyout. :)
 
Try to think about the trade request from Casspi's perspective:
Byron Scott does not think very highly of his skill level.
Most Cavs fans do not think he should be included in the future plans of the organization.
Casspi is only 24 and worked hard his whole life to get to where he is. It is crucial to the future of his career to get more minutes and play for a coach that wants him on the team.
Why shouldn't he ask for a trade? Once a player realizes that his coach does not count on him shouldn't they desire to find another team? Isn't it also in the best interest of the team to let an unwanted player (by the coach) find a different team?

His trade value can't be high but I bet that for a second round pick some NBA teams will be willing to gamble on Casspi.
There are plenty of players who struggle for a long time until they play for a coach and system that maximizes their skill level.
 
There are no 7th round draft picks in basketball.
 
Its funny to me that Casspi thinks anyone would want him
 
In related news, Scott requests Casspi be traded.
 
This guy was only drafted for two reasons:

1. His nationality, ownership figured he would sell a few more seats. (AKA Stupid Maloofs)
2. Sacramento needed a starting SF at the time and thought he had potential.

When he was in Sacramento he was a constant distraction because he whined and complained that he wouldn't start, It seems he is doing the same thing to the Cavs, luckily you may be able to get something for him from a team that needs a SF just based on potential (what little I see in him is irrelevant, I don't get paid for this). So you can look at this as a plus because you already have Gee and Miles who are way better than Casspi in every way and you get rid of a distraction in the locker room that might poison the core (Kyrie,TT,Waiters,Zeller). I would not be surprised to see in 5 years that he has been with 3 different teams due to his attitude.

Dude, I don't know what your agenda is, but almost everything you have written in this post is blatantly false and disingenuous.

First, there was not ONE report about him whining in Sacramento (or here for that matter) about not starting, or being a distraction in any way. Please provide a link if you would like to correct me.

Second, Sacramento did not draft him to be their starting SF. He was considered a project and there was talk of him starting out in the D-League, but he far exceeded expectations and became the starter at SF when Garcia went down and Donte Green didn't impress.

I'll give you that his nationality played a role in teams considering him, but at the end of that season, had they done a redraft, he would've been a lottery pick (given the fact that he started in the rookie/sophomore AS game and was selected to the All-NBA second rookie team), so what does that matter?

You can make the argument that in his tenure with the Cavs, Casspi hasn't made much of a case for himself, but to pretend that he has never done anything to justify his place in the NBA and his perceived potential by NBA GMs, or that he is some sort of locker room cancer, is just irrational hate.

There is a difference between demanding a trade and requesting one. It's perfectly reasonable for a professional basketball player who is not getting minutes and knows that other teams are interested in him and will give him minutes, to request a trade to one of those teams. I would be way more concerned about a player who would rather stay put at the end of the bench than be traded to another team. This is exactly what is happening now with the Cavs. Casspi is (according to reports) requesting to be moved, seeing that BS has no use for him.

But, my point stands - Casspi was not a distraction in Sacramento and is not a distraction here. Anyone who would blame the Cavs' problems on Casspi is out of his mind. In Sacramento, half the team was calling out the coach (Hawes, Tyreke, Cousins, Dalembert, Nocioni previous to that season and after he left, Udoka). Casspi never said anything close to what these guys said publicly in the media, and you want to paint him as the distraction? Give me a break.
