I'm also open to The Turkish Delight or the Butcher from The Black Sea.
How many championships has this strategy netted us?In order to win a championship now.
What we really need is a Greek guy from Chalcidice to be the Byzantine Bomber for @RandolphkeysHow many championships has this strategy netted us?
We still need some young guys in the pipeline.
I agree. Mid-Late second rounders can be bought outright very easily. Over a 3-5 year span, gather 2-3 2nd round picks per year and take 90% Euro stash players. Treat this like your European minor leagues. All of the sudden, you start hitting on a few and you get real difference makers down the line. It's self-sustaining your roster and youth while taking minimal risk.I don't see why teams like the Cavs wouldn't draft and stash all of their second round picks. Very few 2nd rounders ever make an NBA team, let alone have some sort of impact on a contending team. You get to watch a guy develop for a couple years in a professional environment against professional competition (possibly in the Olympics as well) at no cost to you. If he doesn't work out, all you lost was a 2nd round pick. If you bring in a 2nd rounder, you're likely just wasting time and money in player development that'll get flushed down the drain the second he gets cut in camp.
However, if you hit, you can then down the road bring in a guy who is ready to contribute right away and is still on a rookie contract. The Spurs are the obvious poster child for success on the draft & stash (Parker, Ginobili, Splitter, etc) but many others have had success with it.
Pretty sure the Butcher of the Black Sea was Talat Pasha. Turkish Delight, said with a British accent, remains my go-to nickname for all good Turkish players and frankly I could see McLeod using it if Osman ended up playing here.I'm also open to The Turkish Delight or the Butcher from The Black Sea.
