Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To add - it worries me that Mayfield is just too damn hardheaded to make the necessary adjustments to alleviate any shortcomings...

I think character concerns can be a bit overstated but we'd be remiss not to consider this fact.

I just can't see the guy who traded up to take Patrick Mahomes over Deshaun Watson last year taking Baker Mayfield over Darnold/Allen. Dorsey values physical skillsets.

Not every QB who is short is drew brees ffs.

No. They're either Drew Brees or Russell Wilson because there are virtually no other guys to compare to at that height who aren't busts unless you want to go back to the 2-bar facemask era.

Sub par mechanics yet the most accurate QB in the draft...

Drops his eyes under pressure yet was statistically far and away the best Qb under pressure in the draft....

This is fake news.

The best comp is really Jeff Garcia, in terms of style of play.

Just an honest question about height.

How much bigger of an issue is 6’1 and 6’2? Is it about sight? Wouldn’t you measure to eyes not to the top of their head if that was the case?

Like insanely good Jeff Garcia when he came into the league at 29? Or meh Jeff Garcia in his mid 30s?

The height is pretty hard to get past. Isn't he barely 6 foot? Come the fuck on.

Actually closer to 6'1 than 6'

Several people with NFL experience are on record stating that his film shows a ton of improvisation - stuff he is not going to get away with at the next level.

His accuracy is off the charts, he has a good arm, and I don't think anyone is arguing that he makes poor decisions (in college, I don't think he did).

That said, his improvisational style coupled with the fact that he just isn't that fast or athletic should worry teams. He could flounder if not set up in a system catered to his style of play.

See, I do not understand this at all? Improvision is bad? Also I thought to some he's just a single read guy and the system lays it out for him where he doesn't have to improvise? Why is it he was best in every analytic when it came to under distress or against blitz or outside the pocket? If it was too much improvision, why is he clearly at the top in regards to turnovers and ball security as well?

And the whole not fast enough or athletic enough is just horrible. I'm not saying he is super athletic and fast but he's deffinetely not unathletic and slow to the point it's a problem. He put up almost identical numbers as Drew Brees with Mayfield a slightly faster 40, 3 cone, and broad jump then Brees?

A guy where is you surround him with enough talent, he'll make plays.

Be relatively inconsistent, and will drive you insane. And likely cost your team some games, but he'll make some plays.

My uninformed, gut opinion 2 days out from the draft...

I believe the Browns made a decisions at 1 between Darnold and Mayfield. I believe they are going with Darnold at 1. They seriously looked at Mayfield but know he will go #3 to the Jets. They are putting Allen's name out there as a serious consideration for #1 because they want teams to give them a good offer for #4 where Allen will be available. "If Dorsey thinks he's good enough to be the #1 pick maybe he's that good and I better move up to get him".

If they go with Mayfield #1, New York will take Darnold #2 instead of going with Chubb/Barkley, Allen or Rosen will go 3, leaving 1 QB on the board at 4. Maybe that gives them more of a leg up since the last good QB is still on the board at 4 with Denver sitting at 5.

Either way, I believe they have made up their mind at 1 and are playing the disinformation game to get a sweetheart deal for #4. If it doesn't work out, great we take Chubb and walk out with the best QB and the best non-QB in the draft. If someone comes in with an offer, we get the best QB and a killer deal both this year and next.

I’m not a Mayfield fan at all, but if he turns out to be Jeff Garcia he succeeded. Garcia was a 4x probowler who threw for over 4,000 yards once, 3,000 yards twice, and over 2,000 yards 4 other times. 161 career passing TD’s and a career completion percentage over 60%.

Garcia had his warts for sure, and maybe it speaks more to my feelings about Mayfields future more than anything, but that would be a major win if he ends up on Garcia’s level.

Maybe a success for Baker, but not for the Browns. If that is what we get for going 1-31, I'll see you at the 480.

Baker's eyes are higher up on his head than most people, so he has the visual perspective of someone who's 6'3.
