Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So basically we're content with becoming the Bills/Bengals/Texans. Cusp playoff team, no chance of winning anything.

Fuck that. I want to find a franchise guy.

Flacco has won a superbowl, i would argue eli manning and russell wilson might not be top 10 either (might be, but both boarderline) and they have super bowl victories too.

In the end, you get a top 15 qb in place, give him a good o-line and weapons and a top 5 defense and you win.

It doesnt take historic QB's like Brady or Brees to win a superbowl, but that doesnt hurt either. Now if i thought there was a historic QB in this draft, then we should take him...but that qb just doesnt exist this draft, and instead of completly punting on a QB for another year, lets give Tyrod a 2 year chance.

I'd offer our 2nd 2nd round pick, a 4th this year and a third in 2018 for JG. Bill would have a hard time turning that down.

Such a high price to pay for someone who played 2 games this year and put up simular numbers to Tyrod's 30 starts over the last 2 years.

I wouldnt hate JimmY G, but he is very untested and in the Belicheck system which hides allot of flaws.

Two second round picks for Jimmy G is a tough pill to swallow.

But, the Browns have extra second round picks both this year and next.

That could be a sensible move if they believe him to be legit. I'd have my doubts, obviously.

Exactly.

I would feel much better about Garaoppolo if he had started all four games of his first and only opportunity. Definitely not giving out the big money long term contract unless JG starts the majority of the 16 games in the upcoming season. Therefore, the relative lack of certainty has to figure into the price in draft picks. This is a text book conditionality scenario.

With Taylor, you keep the draft picks, while adding more quality players, including a 1-2 round QB (best available option at a spot beginning at 12). This is a straight two-year bridge scenario that still allows the opportunity to win now while getting the future FQB in the draft was well.

I like the Taylor option better, because he has demonstrated success in the starting QB role, while simultaneously allowing for the FQB development. JG seems like more of a roll of the dice, at a higher opportunity cost (at least two quality starting players).

not sure why anyone here is willing to trade a single 2nd round pick for garaoppolo, much less more than that. the guy in 3 years has attempted 94 passes. 94. as in 3 games worth of passes in 3 years. For reasons Ive never understood mystery players seem to be worth more in the NFL than known quantities. Example the browns traded a Compensatory 3rd round pick for a probowl DE. But the browns should trade multiple 2nd round picks for a QB with 94 total passes?

So basically he is a complete and total unknown, other than what we know he did in college. If it takes a 2nd round to get him. Ive got him below both cousins and taylor as potential FA, and probably others. I would also accept trade a 7th for romo, and draft mahomes

With Taylor we know exactly what we have... And it's not really where we want to be.

Garroppolo has some of the best pocket presence/footwork (it's honestly almost Rodgers-esque) I've seen on tape dating back to his rookie year pre-season stuff. His release has gotten so much better since then, and he just does not turn the ball over.

Take the chance on landing a FQB any chance the Browns can. Hell, draft a QB again next year. You can't do enough to find the right guy at the position no matter the cost.

It sounds like you just like a ~~mystery~~

I think you need to look at the systems each quarterback comes from. Under Greg Roman, Taylor operated a voluminous playbook with lots of shifts in and out of formations. That is a testament to his ability to find a hole in the defense and exploit it. The problem is that it's a little gimmicky, and calls for one or two reads at the most. Under Lynn, half of the playbook was thrown out the window and the playcalling became simplified. However, Taylor still made one or two reads, mostly playaction, with encouragement to run if the first or second option is off the table.

I'd prefer a quarterback who can make throws if the first and second options aren't there rather than tucking the ball to run. We have seen two years worth of one or two read passing sets. They lead to quarterback injuries and an offense that doesn't take full advantage of its skill positions.

The cost might be right for Taylor as a rental, but that is all he provides, just like RG3 was a cheap one year rental.

I do think it's a nice advantage for Hue to coach Davis Webb from Cal leading up to the Senior Bowl. Webb has the size - 6'5 and 230 - to play in the AFC North. He makes quick decisions in the pocket, which I like. One big drawback will be the gap between Sonny Dykes offense and a pro style offense, which delayed Goff's debut for so long.

I think he'd do well learning behind a legitimate starter for a few years, but Hue gets an up close exclusive to figure out if Webb is worth it.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers are viewed as potential destinations for Kirk Cousins if the Washington Redskins were to trade him. Note: In order for a trade to even be a possibility, the Redskins would have to franchise tag him first.

Here is exactly what Cole said via his Washington source:

A Washington source indicated that are willing to weigh their options this offseason with quarterback Kirk Cousins, including the possibility of trading him with either San Francisco or Cleveland being the most likely destinations. The 49ers would chase Cousins once they hire Kyle Shanahan, and perhaps include the No. 2 overall pick in the deal. The Browns also have interest, and Cousins played in the Hue Jackson offense under Jay Gruden.

There are already a bunch of scenarios the Browns could take at quarterback next year, so I guess throwing one more person into the mix won’t hurt anyone, right?
