We're the hot chick at the party!!!! Were getting laid this offseason!!!
This only works if the Cavs a. include Mozgov and b. they think he is the equivalent of two 1st rounders. Might even be able to hang onto LBJs bff. I think even Thompson could be involved in lieu. Really a curious idea the more I think about it...Why do we have to lose Kevin Love?
I wonder if Portland would be willing to just take back Haywood+Miller+Shumpert+picks? It's better than losing him to free agency. They'd get 1-2 picks, Haywood's $10M, Miller's expiring and Iman Shumpert.
I mean, they could either facilitate a trade for Aldridge to go out East and get a shit ton of cap relief assets (which are tradeable), or Aldridge can walk in free agency. We might even be able to do a three-team trade looking to cut salary if Portland wants young talent instead.
San Antonio and Dallas can just sign him outright, so it would behoove Portland to trade Aldridge to a team that he would want to play for post-trade (as in, a team that is still good after making the trade).
I haven't given this really any thought, but, Aldridge is great at both center and power-forward. I think you can easily play both Aldridge and Love side by side.
Is this remotely possible?
Btw. I do understand 4 max contracts would be insane, but for one, Kyrie is locked in at the old CBA max. We also don't know what the new CBA will consist of, and there's already reports of the cap exceeding $100M in the next few years.
Actually tbh, I feel like the Portland connection is just the writer reaching for content/ a story.

There are too many issues with this if Love is still on the Cavs. If not, it would be a great pickup. But Aldridge can't play center for a full season. There also simply aren't enough basketballs to distribute between LeBron, Kyrie, Love, Aldridge, JR.
Right now the Cavs have an advantage size-wise with Movgov against most teams. Love is already undersized at the PF, Aldridge would be undersized at the C position. No reason to have such a disadvantage.
The real news here is Cleveland is now a destination city for free agents.
TT would at least have to go for us to have Lamarcus and keep Love. Can't pay two PF's 20+mil and another one 12+ mil. TT and Haywood would have to be out. Then you add another center behind Moz and you got lineups where Love-LA can play together and the traditional lineups with true centers. And LA can step in for Love at PF when he goes to the bench.
What a dream that would be. Just tough to do with the money Andy is getting and the money Moz WILL get (and already noted TT). We couldn't tie up that much money to one spot.

Even if it were legal, which I don't believe it is given the new CBA rules, I don't think a package like that gets it done for the Cavs. Not when Boston, Orlando, Philly, or any number of teams in the East can trump it. And it doesn't matter if LMA wants to go to Cleveland. The Cavs can't sign him outright, so LMA couldn't say, "trade me here or else."
In theory, he could say, "Trade me to Cleveland, or I'm signing with Boston/Philly/Orlando." But wouldn't the Blazers just turn around and reach out to one of those teams and say, "Hey, you can have LMA, just trade for him. Otherwise, we're sending him somewhere else."
We need one of the big 3 plus another contract or 2. If love is gone then yes that would work.@col63onel , do you agree with this?
I think it would be more like sign and trade me to the cavs or I'm going to sign with the spurs or another west team. Portland would want to try to sign and trade him to where he wants to go so they get assets. If they don't they are left with nothing if he signs out right with someone else.
