Wanted to start a topic even though Craig Porter Jr is currently a 2-way player at the moment. I’ve been looking forward to watching him play.

For a guy who is 6’2” he blocked 3+ shots in 8 games this past season. He plays hard defensively and looks to help out. He even averaged 1.5 SPG, and 1.5 BPG. I love that he also looks to get boards and hustles. We need that big time and I would love to build off PGs who hustle, play defense, great BBIQ, good low post game, and shoots decently well.

He’s had some amazing nifty passes. He’s someone to build off as a backup PG here and give it a try. He also can create his own shot too.

He gives me some Gabe Vincent Gary Payton jr vibes.

It may take some time and development but I feel he’s got the right mentality, room for development in his game to have a big impact in the NBA. I love his ability to block and get his hands in for steal opportunities. Such great BBIQ player. I know he’s an undrafted player and we shouldn’t live the hype as hardly these players get into the NBA but he’s very unique to me as a defender, high BBIQ, ability to create shots, and being a PG to help his teammates.

His interview below talks about his “sneaky athletic” being that he’s small and overlooked but he always brings effort, never gives up, ability to block, etc. He was told that his coaches have a a plan for him. He wished that he can be in the NBA already but he understands and accepts there is time and development for him to action and then how to fit in the team as a backup guard at first.

Here’s some clips about Craig Porter Jr in college. There’s been doubts about creating separation and creating and constantly hitting shots but I disagree. Seeing here he’s got good handles, very shifty and sneaky, ability in changing gears, hits step back shots, has good vision and BBIQ. BBIQ is huge on both ends and on defensive space- great at closing out shooters, awareness in passing lanes including help defense to get his hands in or contest shots. Plus he rebounds the ball which we really need at the guard level. I believe he will be a surprise to us and I like him a lot.

He’s the type of player to be a fan favorite. Again he’s an undrafted player and you can’t count on undrafted players but he’s a player I’ve been looking forward to seeing how he develops.

I really like him. Makes sense on a 2way unless a pg goes down. Definitely a different look than our guards. Sharife bring worse versions of what our guards can do, but Porter is a different flavor

Is this the good Porter Jr?

Gonna be pulling for him. Need 2 of these guys to pop, and he’s got as good s chance as any.

Has a great presence out there in SL. Seems to not get rattled under pressure. For the role he plays, an important trait.

intriguing two way guy
If you get a chance to get a guard who has played at Wichita State and gone undrafted, you take it. FVV, Austin Reaves - C Porter Jr?

I think this guy has more to his game than most people realize. He rebounds well vs larger guys, he had a spin move into a layup that looked like Kyrie. He sees the floor well, his jump shot looks good. He's plays long/tall on defense and is quicker than he looks.

Yes.

No longer a Luke stan... I'm now a Craig stan.

Luke doesn't hit the same without the mullet.

Craig is Delly with hops. Book it!

I don’t thinks there’s anything sneaky about his athleticism anymore. It jumped off the screen the first minute I saw him. He jumped for a rebound and I commented in the Summer League thread that he has some serious springs.

He’s also strong for his size and age. He abuses guards when he gets them on the block.
