Cuyahoga County Sin Tax

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Deezus' argument. "Stop subsidizing billionaire owners!"

1996: Cleveland couldn't approve funding for a new stadium. Browns moved to Baltimore.

2008: Seattle couldn't approve funding for a new stadium. Sonics moved to OKC.

Two of the best fan bases had their teams ripped away from them because they couldn't secure funding for a new stadium. I doubt Cleveland ever votes down stadium funding again.

Modell had to move the team because he was a shitty owner who couldn't make a profit. He continued to be a such a shitty owner in Baltimore, even with a sweetheart deal, that he had to sell the team. His failures are on him, and not on any stadiums.

The group that bought the Sonics already planned to move the team before any negotiation on a new stadium in Seattle came up. Again, the talk of not getting a stadium is just an excuse to sell to the public.

I guess what else are you going to do with $1B other than lavishly waste it.

I think we should unban Joe and let him post a one word reaction and then ban him again.

I wish joe wasn't banned so I could tell him to go fuck himself

It's all fun and games and partying for the guys who get public funding I guess. Must be nice. I wonder how those in Kinsman neighborhood are currently feeling about the efforts to "Keep Cleveland Strong".

Guys, I think we found a new Joe.

Kinsman?

More like Sins. Man.

Sounds good to me.

I can't think of a better way to demonstrate that public funds will be put to good use than gifs of overflowing champagne. But hey, "you" won, even though you said you don't actually work for a team, so you should get to feel good about gloating.

So by taking away the fund that pays for the repairs and forcing the city to take money away from other parts of the budget will help those in the Kinsman neighborhood? If you can give me one actual alternative to the lease we are locked into a REALISTIC one, I am all ears.

I didn't win this week. Our facilities got put in the forefront of property maintenance; the larger revenue public owned properties stay pristine. Might not be the most urgent issue in terms of public prosperity, but it is far from the beast some are making it out to be.

It would help if you read the previous parts of the thread to keep up

Or, you know, the city finds alternate ways to raise the money. Hopefully ways that better place the burden of maintaining the facilities on its primary users. No official who is dependent on winning a general election is going to throw up his hands and go "oh well, we don't have the money to provide services for the citizens whose votes I desperately need".

If you can give me one actual alternative to the lease we are locked into a REALISTIC one, I am all ears.

Of course, The Indians and Cavs renegotiated their leases in 2004 when it was apparent just how one-sided they were, but somehow we're supposed to believe the leases are ironclad now.

I didn't win this week.

Yet you sure seem to be celebrating like you're profiting off this one.

the larger revenue public owned properties stay pristine.

And they would have stayed pristine without public funds if those who made revenue off of them actually needed them to stay pristine.

Might not be the most urgent issue in terms of public prosperity

Yeah, "might not be". Talk about an undersell.

the beast some are making it out to be

The beast is that a city that is losing wealth and population somehow thinks keeping up the status quo will fix things. The city is slowly dying, but the right people still keep making money, so nothing ever changes.

Keeping Cleveland Strong (for the right people)

edit: sell the Indians
