Dan Gilbert

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Give him 2 - 3 years, he'll sell the team and buy the Pistons.

Dans willingness to spend is great but he's way to involved in things he shouldn't be. He's unable to ever take a step bak and trust the people he's put in positions of power.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that any owner could ever be a decent GM? Why are those things somehow mutually exclusive?

Because he has become successful through his finance company you think he should be able to be a successful GM? That's nonsensical. He still works massive hours at Quicken. How COULD he keep up with another 100 hour a week job? To become the best at something you need to work extremely hard at it for long periods of time. The more involved ownership is in the day to day decision making the more you are removing career professional decisions and imparting the ideas of a fan. While there are some fans out there that might be able to handle such a task, its not a high number. And in the history of sports you don't see a lot of successful hand on owners. But you sure do see some awful ones.

Gilbert was lucky LeBron was born in Ohio. He has pretty significantly mismanaged assets during that time.

I hate to see reports like this:

Where have you heard that he's interested in selling?
The rumors ever since LeBron returned have been out there. Google pulls up a bunch of results of different sources. He has also bought out a bunch of partners (because he can't get along with anyone) which makes selling teams more enticing.

The only thing I've ever seen to heard is that Lebron wanted he and the pistons owners swap teams. Other than that the only sites that mention Dan looking to sell are the 3rd rate unreliable sites that no one should ever take seriously.

Him buying out his partners just means he wants full control of the team. I don't see how that would signify him looking to sell.

Just because Google gives you a bunch of shit, doesn't mean that there's any validity to the rumors. All that it means is that people like to speculate about Gilbert.

Also, buying out partners to gain control could mean lots of things. Like, for example, wanting more control.

Okham's razor, bro.

Conspiracy Theory:

IF Dan is trying to sell the team. And IF LBJ knows that he is...

Then, LBJ is not committing long term because he knows it would increase the value of the franchise.

Therefore, LBJ not signing is not only a form of control over the franchise, but also a small fuck-you to Dan's net worth.

Give the guy a break...He's spent beyond any owner in the history of the NBA and brought the city a title...he gets a pass in my book

Don't tell that to enemy territory... https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2...n-gilbert-golden-state-warriors-cavs-are-dumb

Shorter GSOM: blah blah blah loan shark blah blah blah 3-1. Even their comments largely see it as over the top.

And yes, even if 3-1 jokes are overdone, that situation and the Indians are not the same. I don't think they understand, too, that we have essentially infinite rights to be sore winners because of 52 years - and no, that's not the same as *one* of your many successful sports teams having *one* 40-year drought.

just wait until we beat them this year....GS is not invincible...their crying will be deafening

They arent but Dan is a crap gm.
Lots of people are of the opinion that the Cavs did well with the Boston trade, some of the signings. There is reporting that says Dan's heavily involved.

Dan pays record salaries and taxes willingly and he's been at the highest levels of the NBA for years, involved in all aspects. Why shouldn't he be able to use Altman to do all the grunt work, advise and assist, and bring all the available options to Gilbert? In many organizations the GMs bring proposals to the owners for final approval.

I'm starting to think Gilbert saw what he got with Griffin steering the ship and he didn't like what he ended up with. I would tend to agree, Griff's moves were very one sided and lacked balance. So far Gilbert's moves through Altman are very balanced towards both offense and defense, and towards the present and the future.
