well, i had been wondering where this guy was, he was one of the top 20 players in one of the best high school classes in history, and had 2 pretty good seasons at Memphis...he declared for the draft and didnt get drafted, and now it look like he is fighting for a roster spot on the Mavs.

Ebi, came out the same year as LeBron, he was supposed to go to Arizona, i thought he was going to turn into a pretty good player, but he never really got the chance to devolp into something in Minnesota

Ebi, Washington, Barea, Carroll Try To Earn Final Mavs Roster Spot

Dallas Morning News - Former Timberwolves first round selection, high schooler Ndudi Ebi, Northwestern's Jose Juan Barea, Memphis point guard Darius Washington and swingman Pat Carroll are fighting for the final Mavericks roster spot.

"What you have are four young guys with upside who are worth investing in," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said.

Ebi, a 6-9 forward who played at Houston Westbury Christian, jumped to the NBA from high school. He was taken 26th by Minnesota in 2003, three spots ahead of Josh Howard.

But he played just 19 games in two seasons before being released in November. Ebi spent last season with Fort Worth in the National Developmental League and attended Hakeem Olajuwon's big man camp in Houston this week. [READ]

The Mavs have been doing a very good job of bringing in undrafted players. Washington and Barea are both pretty talented young PG's who have a legitimate shot at playing in the NBA.
The Mavs signed Marquis Daniels a couple of years ago and he turned out very well. Mbenga was signed out of Europe and Josh Powell showed some promise after being signed when he wasn't drafted last year and was since traded to Indiana.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Cavs try this strategy. It's cheap and it's a no lose situation. These players can be signed with non guaranteed contracts or very small guarantees at the most. If they don't impress they you just drop them with no salary cap hit.

the Mavs were also working with Pops Mensa Bonsu from GW...
