I've been as hard on him as anyone when it comes to resting, but I am glad he rode them out. They all played really shitty tonight, and that shouldn't be tolerated, regardless of how meaningless the game was.

If Blatt wanted to send any message he wanted in this game, I have no problem.

Generally you'd hope that the stars would want to be on the floor in a close game, even if they were tired. So as long as the team doesn't feel like the coach is riding the stars for big minutes to cover up deficiencies in game plan, I totally agree with you.

- Tough game for us. It was evident that we were physically slow and mentally beat down. But we found a way to win and that's good.

- Kevin took an elbow to the back, we took him out and didn't want to push it. Iman jammed his ankle, he wanted to come back but we held him off.

- Doesn't think we're looking at something serious.

- Philly fought and played hard. We didn't play our best game, for sure, but they deserve credit.

- Fatigue has a big part in us playing the way we did.

- Doesn't think that the last play by Philly was the one they planned. Anyway, TT did a great job on D on that play.

- Doesn't think it's a focus issue with the guys. Again mentions that the schedule was really hard and it affects the guys. And it's good we have time to rest for the next matches and going onwards.

Blatt is pretty meh to me. I think this team can win a title, but it won't be because of anything special he did. Thank God for LeBron getting healthy and Griffin coming through with the roster moves.

So if we win a title, Blatt gets zero credit from you..

But let me guess - so help him if we DON'T win a title from the likes of you. Am I right?

I always give credit where it's due. Just nothing about Blatt impresses me all that much at this point. Not that my opinion matters. But thats what it is. He is a rookie head coach in the NBA. He has a lot more time to get better. But our record is due almost entirely to LeBron's health and the roster pickups.

I mean it's very true. I'm sure almost any coach could get a team with Lebron, Kyrie, and Love to 51 wins (where we probably end up). I think Blatt will be way better next year.

Our roster pickups consisted of a backup G, journeyman center, and headcase SG who was considered more of a liability than an asset.

To get as much as we did out if those guys has a lot to do with the head coach.

Also, compare the preseason prediction regarding our defensive liabilities to what we are capable of playing now.

Oh yea, I am not saying he can't improve. Nor am I even coming close to calling for his head. I just don't think he deserves much credit for our current success. Can that change? Of course.

1. Shumpert was a starter every game he played for the Knicks this year
2. Mozgov has played on 3 NBA teams. With the bulk of it being in Denver
3. I give more credit to LeBron getting J.R. Smith's head straight. Even Smith himself has said the bond they have has been a immense help in his short Cavs career so far.

Sorry, I am not going to agree that Blatt has "a lot" to do with turning this around. The wheels were a cunt hair away from falling off until LeBron came back and Griffin made the moves he did. He deserves way more time to prove himself, but right now he isn't getting credit for jackshit.

So from whom did the players learn the ball movement, defense, etc they showed against Memphis?

No, we just grant vacations to posters who troll-post and then complain about moderation. Enjoy it.

I think this thread is pretty good evidence that differing opinions are welcome.

Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

Seen this term used here and other sites. by all definitions I've seen it's just a op opinion if it is. most all posts could fall under this definition. the most ambiguous word ever used on forums. imo

You can win an NBA title or even two being an average head coach. See one Rudy T for example.

I think people have trouble when defining credit. Any coach will have a total of good and bad moves. The sum of those may even be positive but that does not equate necessarily to that coach having a value add that is greater then what would be provided by a replacement level NBA coach. By definition a replacement level NBA coach is likely going to be a smart and capable guy

Winning a title despite a coach? Rarely, if ever, possible.

See: Scott Brooks.

If the Cavaliers win a title, Blatt will have had a major hand in that. How can you possibly be that naive? This isn't some inmates running the prison type scenario that you're making it sound like. Blatt's system is being executed and wins are piling up.

So from whom did the players learn the ball movement, defense, etc they showed against Memphis?

People really have a strange view of NBA coaching. You really think a team of professionals like this is going to have some coach say to them 'ball movement! Defense! these are good things!' and be like 'I never thought of that! Guess I'll pass the ball and try to stay in front of my man!'? These guys know how to move the ball and play defense, it's a matter of motivation and focus. That comes from your fellow teammates as much or more than your coach. JR Smith is playing some of the best defense of his career and it's obviously not because Blatt got through to him where other coaches haven't, it's because he realizes he has a shot at a championship playing alongside Lebron. He always had the ability to do this, the motivation was lacking.

Blatt does seem to have done a solid/competent job on some of the defensive schemes, particularly stopping the early season bleeding on pick and rolls by channeling penetration toward Mozgov and reducing showing and switching. Except for his fourth quarter small lineup/no Mozgov stuff which still emphasizes switching and seems too cute to me. Plus, Blatt deserves credit for *not screwing it up* -- people never get enough credit for that. The new players fit in and the team gelled; I don't think he was the primary reason that happened but he didn't seem to subtract from it.
