Didn't dion get benched because he gave up 2 straight line drives to the bucket on successive plays by closing up way too tight and out of position. I'm assuming this is a point of emphasis that he was told to stop doing and he didn't.

My main concern is not blatt, it's lues defensive system, it needs to be more conservative, we don't have the individual defenders or discipline to be able to hard hedge all screens, zone up the weak side and recover to shooters, which is why our opposition at the moment can run their offense way to o easy. Or they stick to their guns and weather the storm which will be a .500 November record at best

As opposed to players just watching open 3's being taken or buckets scored in the paint because the opponent was being guarded with their eyes

I didnt say it was right, obviously our team is the worst defensive team in the league. I meant more along the lines of if someone is subbed in with specific instructions (an i admit im making a huge assumption here) the proceeds to fail to act on those instructions, is it not a surprise he gets pulled

Well, we've seen for 3 years now that a certain someone doesn't take kindly to coaching and constantly breaks off plays. I've got no doubt that Blatt, like Brown and Scott before him, have told Kyrie to stop the ISO stuff and he just ignores them or, after listening for a little bit, reverts back to it.

I thought you meant Waiters my bad.

When the team and more so LeBron, Kyrie, and Marion stepped up on defense we look A lot better. I think tonight was a huge step in terms of playing right but still got a looong ways to go. However to claw and climb back and basically stun the team that thought they could do anything is a step in the right direction. Blatt and Bron are trying to run plays in a system and when the players know to ISO they will. Kyrie shown that tonight. He made better choices. Basically the team looked much better tonight. Oh the refs fucked us hard tonight as well... take the 8 point they cost us by BS calls and we win.

Well, As of now we don't have a backup pg as Dellavedova is injured so Blatt can't "punish" Kyrie We need a backup pg that is able and will run the plays for the team and sometimes put Kyrie at the 2
We need an defensive big guy, birdman kinda guy that just scares everyone, need someone tall and athletic, that's a must
Our players can't conserve energy at all with that defense, they run too much to cover the other's guys roll by switching and recovering, Defense yields better offense.
1st priority is to to acquire a defensive big man, not necessarly a shot blocker.

kyrie's best year was when the cavs had livingston, a heady tall pg. i think kyrie's a great offensive weapon but not a good floor general. if the cavs commit to kyrie at point guard blatt must utilize lbj's ability to make plays. love in the post, kyrie on the wings, lbj on top of the key with 2 role players ready to make an open jumpshot might be the best offensive balance the cavs need to get things flowing.

Kyrie should play as a SG, we need a white pg, kind of like Dragic.

There are certainly more than one way to bend a defense but our shot creators thrive when they do that by attacking the rim.

Problem is the rim is like a welcoming party because we just aren't playing with any spacing.

The only three point shooter the defenses respect is Mike Miller and he hasn't been getting the ball. Marion isn't a shooter and he knows this so he tends to hover near the rim on the baseline; when he spots up POR and UTAH just cheated off of him. Varajao is also hanging in the paint too much, he needs to move out to the elbow like he was doing last year.

Irving and Waiters also have got to starting shooting when they get the ball on the perimeter instead of always looking the drive. They have to be alright with just spoting up for 5-6 plays at time and SHOOTING the ball when they get it so teams start stick to them. Right now defenses are giving them space to tighten up the paint and then closing up on them when they get the ball. When this happens they don't have a perimeter outlet because Love (who instantly crashes the boards when some one drives btw), Varajaor, TT or Marion at already in the paint.

I'll try and put something together with screenshots, etc after the DEN game, but here is a good play of what I mean regarding Marion.

And what do you know

18. When they got to the film session, James told teammates to stop crowding him in transition. In the loss to Portland, James felt like too many hands were running at him trying to get the ball. James told them to run to the corners, find their spots and give him room to maneuver. If they did that, the ball would eventually find them.
28. Mike Miller needs to touch the ball more, otherwise there’s no use playing him. He got up one shot in 22 minutes tonight and has attempted two 3-pointers (and missed them both) in 50 minutes. James said before the game he’d like more minutes on the court with Miller to help get him adjusted.

LeBron needs 4-6 games playing as the primary playmaker without Kyrie in order to get a better feel of where everyone else want the ball and how to direct them to move into better position to get involved more. He's not going to be able to do that now because Kyrie has the ball more on his hands and has no intention of making effective set plays for anyone else.

LeBron needs be to the primary playmaker in order for the team to get the best out of him and his passing ability and court vision/awareness are a few of his best qualities and right now he can't do that as a limited part-time playmaker.

I get the idea to bench Waiters and bring in someone for defensive purposes in the starting lineup, but inserting a 36 year old Marion and expecting him to guard shooting guards is insane

Between Cavs fans and Clippers fans I can't decide who's overreacting more to a slow start. 85% of the clippers forum is filled with post about Doc bein overrated and the clippers regressing as a team. Whiles this forum is filled with people doubting Blatt's reputation and talking about internal dysfunction.

....Sometimes teams just start off slow

People thought I was crazy when I said we should have locked up Livingston for next 3-4 years. But he would fit this roster so well right now and would be our 2nd best perimeter defender.

I didn't like letting go Livingston either. Really he's been the only decent traditional PG we've had since Snow became a corpse.

I sort of see Blatt's logic with tinkering a lot during the early part of the year with lineups (not unreasonable to try a big lineup with Marion or Lebron at the 2, Liked that he experimented with Lebron/Marion/Waiters together - want to see more of that). However, at times the team looks befuddled and there are things like moving Lebron to the 4 or just running some damn Lebron and Love pick and rolls which would help.

Not really sure how we're screwing up the pick and roll coverage at this point but that needs a lot of work as mediocre bigs are getting too many easy shots at the rim right now.
