Destiny

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Best game I've played in a long time. It is literally a perfect mix between Halo, Warcraft, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I said the game was gay, but now I like it.

Xbox servers fucking suck right now.

So, has everyone pre-ordered this? Anyone going crazy and getting the Ghost Edition? I'm getting the PS4 Limited Edition myself, since I plan on playing this game a whole bunch. Plus I always love a good steelbook case, and including the DLC in the Limited Edition of a game I'm excited for will always get me to buy it.

Major thanks to Henry Tuttle who was kind enough to give me one of his extra beta codes.

This game is pretty awesome. I had high hopes for bungie and they really delivered. I was a huge fan of all the halo games, and this one has that halo feel to it (although the gameplay is quite different).

Getting the Ghost Edition for Xbox One. Buying it for 20% off makes it a little easier to be crazy, but I fully realize I'm still crazy.

At least I didn't get the Titanfall Collector's edition. :chuckles:

I'm also planning to take Sept. 9th and 10th off work to play this game when it comes out (something I've never done in my professional life). I may even go to a midnight release if Best Buy offers it which is something I haven't done in like 4-5 years.

We should get a group to play together on PS4. My PSN is Oohdang and I'm a more than solid player. Add me!

Anyone have some actual legit thoughts/impressions of the game? Didn't get to play beta.

Oh boy.

Well, plenty for everyone to do in this game.

Like a great story? It's there.
Like multiplayer? It's there.
Like co-op? It's there.
Like exploring huge environments looking for stuff by yourself for hours? It's there.

Plays a bit like a mixture of Borderlands and Halo.

I didn't pay too much attention to the story, but I'm assuming it's at least decent.

Enemy variety, from what I could see, was pretty good. There were some sentient beings that reminded me of the Covenant (the Fallen), and then there were some others that were clearly inspired by the Flood (the Hive), as well as some interesting bosses (Hive Wizards and the Devil Walker come to mind) that could be strategically taken down via their weak points, when you found them.

Gameplay was super smooth and pretty fun. Competitive multiplayer was pretty fun, as well, although you really shouldn't attempt it til you get some good weapons and abilities leveled up imo. Otherwise, you aren't going to last very long. The multiplayer was the same as Domination in CoD - capture and hold points A, B, and C until you hit 20,000 points or the timer runs out.

What's the motivation to get this on next gen rather than just playing on Xbox 360? Not sure I want to take the plunge for just one game unless you guys can convince me why I should.

There's absolutely no reason to buy it for one game.

Do you thoroughly enjoy playing video games and do you have sufficient time to do so? If the answer to both of those is yes, you're going to want to make the jump to next-gen regardless for the games that won't be coming to 360. It's surely already a much better experience then the gen you're playing right now.

If you are still on the fence, I wouldn't make the jump. Late 2014 (Sept-Dec) there will be quite a few games coming out that might be worth it for you. Destiny is just one of those.

Some will be next gen exclusive, such as Dying Light (zombie game akin to Dead Island), some will be cross gen such as COD.

The only thing I can say that might convince you for a game such as Destiny, to upgrade, would be that there is a very good chance there will be more players playing Destiny next gen than ps360.

There is likely close to 13 million of the consoles out there, the more dedicated game players already have them, and will not be buying games for the old consoles. All of the recent releases, TF, Watch Dogs, etc have sold better on next gen. A lot better. PS4 had 50% of the Watch dogs user base, for example. That number will only grow, and by the time Destiny comes out, it will very likely be over 50%.

But again, that is the only reason you should upgrade if you aren't particularly looking to. For an online based game, user base is a big part of it.

Edit: Just to add, ps360 is dying. I would expect that all the next wave of games will be ps4/xb1 only games anyways. Software sales have just fallen off a cliff for the old gen, so there is not much motivation for the companies to make games for the old consoles.
