I know it's not a bad game, but a ton of people I know have been burned out on it for a while now since it apparently just turns into a giant grinding fest after a while. It was seriously hyped by many outlets as one of, if not the best game(s) of all-time and it just clearly isn't.
The game we were promised and the game that we actually got are two completely different things. Once the creative director left the project and Activision got their tendrils into it, the game as we knew it changed completely, and not in a good way.
There's just not enough to this game to keep it interesting. No mission variety. The Crucible isn't all that fun, definitely nowhere near as fun as Bungie's other major sci-fi multiplayer game. Strikes lack variety and they all have a common theme of final bosses that are way too difficult to damage while being able to kill you in about two hits, along with the constant adds that they get throughout the course of the fight. There's ONE Raid that you can do, and even then it takes six people to tackle it, and even then those six people need to be at a minimum level 26, and even then that's no guarantee that you'll even be able to finish the damn thing. Oh, and did I mention that they just patched the final boss of the Vault of Glass to make him even
harder to kill than he was before?
Upgrading the higher level gear takes a ridiculous amount of resources that are, in all honesty, scarcely found throughout the course of regular play. In other words, you'll have to devote time to going out and mining for helium filaments, spinmetal, etc.
Hell, you can't even buy Vanguard or Crucible gear without having a reputation rank of 2 for armor, 3 for weapons. And the quickest way to build that reputation up is to do bounties. Oh, and you can only have up to five active bounties at a time, meaning you'll have to keep going back to the Tower to lather, rinse, and repeat with the bounty bot.
The mark of a truly good gaming experience is being able to name more positives than negatives and to have some truly standout, memorable moments. This game, save for the graphics, has none of that. Just a whole heaping pile of disappointment that the defenders and fan boys are so quick to rush in and defend by saying things such as, "Well, if you don't like it, then don't play it." Fuck yourself. Don't tell me how to spend my time or my money. If I'm shelling out sixty bones to get a game on launch day, or any other day really, I expect to have a completed product that I enjoy playing in my free time. Don't sit there and tell me that I shouldn't expect game companies to be held accountable when they release a subpar product, especially when they spend millions and millions of dollars hyping it up and advertising it.
Instead, we've got a watered down game with pretty graphics, no storyline whatsoever, and gameplay that has very quickly grown stale. Speaking of the storyline, I'd love for someone to grab that off the cutting room floor and throw it up on Pastebin like they did with Mass Effect 3 a couple years back. I want to know what the actual story was supposed to be, not this nonsensical Darkness/Guardians/uninspired Dinklage voice acting bullshit they gave us instead.
An MMO without a story. I understand breaking the mold and bucking the trend, but I really don't think it's a good idea in this case.
