This is the move Dion needs to add in the off-season.

Unfortunately, that move is one of the most difficult to master in the NBA. Remember when Kyrie tried it several times at the beginning of the year without success?

I agree it's hard to master but he needs to start working on it.

Even if he only converts on a handful of occasions, it will make defenses honor it.

All he wants to do introducing a second finishing option is make both his own and help defender think a little.

Right now, he's just barreling in with his head down. As an undersized SG, that's not going to work a majority of the time.

Why Curry is so good at finishing around the rim (61%) is because he almost never does the same thing twice in a row.

Variety around the basket is what will ultimately make Dion a better finisher.

Maybe that won't happen overnight but Curry has done a great job refining that aspect of his game.

He's gone from a shooter to a complete player because of it.

crazy that over time a player got better
many people on this board think that's impossible

Bored in class so here's his stats since the all star break:

16 Games played - 32.6 minutes per game
19.3 PPG on 46.3/36.8/72 splits
3.9 APG
2.4 Turnovers per game
2.7 RPG
0.9 SPG and 0.3 BPG

He still has a lot of work to do. James Harden averages nearly 9 free throw attempts per game this year while Dion is only at 3.3 per game. He's never going to draw as many fouls as Harden, but getting that number up to 6 per game would be great for both him and our team. He could also be a better rebounder and defender, but he is making major strides as the playoff chase is becoming intense. Building on this progress in the summer and into next season will be huge.

Harden is #3 in the NBA after KD and Dwight for FTA per game; he is known for his ability to create contact and getting to the line. Dion is known for avoiding contact and screaming "AYE!!! AND ONE!!" anytime somebody gets close to him when he's driving. Harden is also a bonafide superstar and benefits from his status in the league. I know "never say never" is a nice cliche, but the odds are not in Dion's favor.

His efficiency is the most exciting part of those stats though, if he can stay consistent with that next season we may have a second all-star on our hands.

Free throw attempts per 36

Harden
year 1: 5.0
year 2: 5.6

Waiters
year 1: 4.4
year 2: 4.0

Harden's FT attempts per game took a big leap in his fourth year. As others have mentioned, Waiters is setting himself up to make the 3rd year leap that you hope for from a young player.

8 a game is a lot. I doubt he gets that many, but I think he will magically get more foul calls as his respect around the league rises.

We had hit rock bottom, we were giving no effort at all, we embarrassed ourselves on the national stage against the Knicks and Lakers. Something had to be done to grab the attention of the players. Grant was not going to fire Brown, Gilbert wasn't going to fire Grant AND Brown at the same time, Gilbert wasn't going to fire himself...so he fired Grant.

The message was delivered and received - the guy that drafted, signed and believed in most of these guys was gone. If they wanted to play, get paid and had any self-respect it was time to start showing effort, do what was asked of them and play as a unit. For some of the players it hit them hard that Grant had been fired, most of the guys liked Chris a lot and knew his kids...they felt responsible for him being gone. It was a real wake-up call and the moment when things clicked. If it wasn't for some subsequent injuries we'd be a lock for the playoffs and a scary match-up for someone.

What do you think the chances are that there are other plans for CG? Kinda strange to attend a function put on by the team that just fired you and sit next to the guy that fired you.

None. There was a lot of strange that night. Ferry, Lebron and Delonte were with them too. :chuckles:

I mean, I don't see it as that weird. Grant worked for the Cavs and Gilbert for almost a decade. He was there for all the good LeBron years, obviously knew Z well as he brought him in as an executive after he retired as a player, and drafted, signed, or traded for basically everyone on the roster that night.

Yeah, he got fired, but that doesn't mean there has to be a ton of bad blood there. I'm sure he wasn't happy about getting canned, but he can probably also understand, given how terrible the team was playing, why he got fired. I honestly think it would have been more weird if he hadn't shown up to support Z.

If he stops the "AYEEE" and "AND ONE" shouts at least by 50% next year, that might work. And speaking of that, how's it been for the last month or 2?
