Larry Brown was saying it is a lot like giving to charity because the sales of Jersey's and other money the olympics makes goes to fund basketball programs all over the place, underdeveloped countries etc.

Anyone who says it's good advertising is right too. The bigger basketball is around the globe, the more money all of these guys make. Basketball has been growing all over the world very fast, and it is due to the dream teams over the years. It's just good business to give away your product/brand for free in certain high profile situations like the olympics where you are reaching hundreds of millions instead of the normal millions you get from the NBA.

1 billion dollar industry. the olympic committe receieves 8% royalty which is about 3 percent less than the us professional sports. Olympic athletes do in fact recieve compensation from sponsors and endorsements. typicaly related to the olympics.

These ednorsement deal you see players sign for typically include olympic provisions.

Wade did revise what he originally said. citing there other aspects of olympic generated revenue that the participants are not able to get involved in.

Players do get royalties for olympic sales for their merchandising by their sponsors.

I agree with Wade about NCAA players being played, but not for the Olympics. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you play for your country, where as when it comes to the NCAA it is practically your only choice if you want to get picked high in the NBA.

They could go to Europe and play a year ala Branding Jennings (top 10 overall pick).

If Jennings plays in the NCAA he is likely a higher pick. It definately hurt his draft stock going over there.

Why would you ever respect Wade in the first place? The guy is a dirty player, he complains non-stop, and he is incredibly immature for a 30 year old (cough video). There should be no respect for this guy.
