Ebola...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kill everyone and burn the bodies?

I suspect a lot more African civilians have been killed by African troops than American civilians by American troops., so we ought to leave that to those with more experience at it.

If we would have gotten on top of this real quickly, perhaps 3000 troops might have been able to stop this thing. But it is spread over such a large area that they're just a drop in the bucket. I've read in some places that they're going to be building treatment facilities, etc., and that's fine. But I don't know why you need American military personnel to do that.

And all that stuff about undetected cases...that's just why our people won't be safe.

Agreed.

We have committed to building 17 treatment facilities that can hold 1700 patients. That's like handing out squirt guns to firefighters battling a forest fire. IF they could instantly build them today(it's going to take months), they'd be overrun in no time.

I don't know how they stop it now. Other than total containment/quarantine of areas. Sending soldiers in there seems like a suicide mission. I'm not opposed to volunteers going in to help these people and sending supplies, but at some point they are going to need to stop people from coming out. The infected areas need to be contained. Have a "Step down" area that people can stay at for 3 weeks before they can leave. I don't know...all i do know is that 3000 troops and 17 treatment centers with 100 beds each seems like a waste of time. CDC is projecting cases may double every 20 days. Let that sink in.

"If conditions continue without scale-up of interventions," the CDC researchers warned, "cases will continue to double approximately every 20 days, and the number of cases in West Africa will rapidly reach extraordinary levels."

I think that's what has to happen. Without effective quarantine, it is just going to keep spreading. I just hope our troops don't start getting sick.

So impoverished people in West Africa with Ebola are like, "Let's fuck with America!"

They have a virus eating their skin, but priorities being what they are, they book an economy flight to Mexico.

At this point, virus coursing through their veins like zombie juice, they meet up with their carefully booked Ebola Coyote.

Ebola Coyote is like, "Don't breathe too much on Pedro and Jorge. Save your Ebola Zombie breath for Max and those American gringos! And you owe me gas money DeSagana."

I blame Keys for this...the Zombie Apocalypse has begun.

Liberia: Dead Ebola Patients Resurrect?
Two Ebola patients, who died of the virus in separate communities in Nimba County have reportedly resurrected in the county. The victims, both females, believed to be in their 60s and 40s respectively, died of the Ebola virus recently in Hope Village Community and the Catholic Community in Ganta, Nimba.

But to the amazement of residents and onlookers on Monday, the deceased reportedly regained life in total disbelief. The NewDawn Nimba County correspondent said the late Dorris Quoi of Hope Village Community and the second victim only identified as Ma Kebeh, said to be in her late 60s, were about to be taken for burial when they resurrected.

Ma Kebeh had reportedly been in door for two nights without food and medication before her alleged death. Nimba County has had bazaar news of Ebola cases with a native doctor from the county, who claimed that he could cure infected victims, dying of the virus himself last week.

News of the resurrection of the two victims has reportedly created panic in residents of Hope Village Community and Ganta at large, with some citizens describing Dorris Quoi as a ghost, who shouldn't live among them. Since the Ebola outbreak in Nimba County, this is the first incident of dead victims resurrecting.

I teach geography, and I am a little surprised Nimba is a real place...

Max, there is a chance I will be going on strike as a labor union member... it will be national news, I won't be the one breaking it to you... If and when it happens I will be drunk on cheap brandy by 10am for a few days in a row and ready to talk politics. Prepare accordingly.

Freetown (AFP) - Sierra Leone began a quarantine of more than one million people Thursday in the largest open-ended lockdown in the Ebola outbreak, as world leaders met to discuss the crisis at the United Nations.

The northern districts of Port Loko and Bombali have been closed off indefinitely along with the southern district of Moyamba -- effectively sealing in around 1.2 million people.

With the eastern districts of Kenema and Kailahun already under quarantine, more than a third of the population of six million -- in five of the nation's 14 districts -- now finds itself unable to move freely.

The president said 12 of the county's 149 tribal chiefdoms -- much smaller administrative areas than districts -- were also to be placed in quarantine, although the total population in these areas was not immediately clear.

"The isolation of districts and chiefdoms will definitely pose great difficulty but the lives of everyone and the survival of our country takes precedence over these difficulties," President Ernest Bai Koroma told the nation in a televised address late Wednesday.

Liberia’s Largest Newspaper Accuses US of Manufacturing Ebola Virus (Video)

Liberia’s Largest Newspaper Accuses US of Manufacturing Ebola

An Ebola ward in Liberia (WaPo)

The Liberian Daily Observer, which is the largest newspaper in Liberia, just published an article on their front page with the headline, “Ebola, AIDS Manufactured By Western Pharmaceuticals, US DoD?” The article accuses the US of manufacturing the Ebola outbreak in a scheme to use Africa as a testing ground for bioweapons.

From the article:

" campaignid="31" apd-id="apdel991961" apd-shown="1" appendedad="true" style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; border: 0px; font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">SITES AROUND AFRICA, AND IN WEST AFRICA, HAVE OVER THE YEARS BEEN SET UP FOR TESTING EMERGING DISEASES, ESPECIALLY EBOLA

The World Health Organization (WHO) and several other UN Agencies have been implicated in selecting and enticing African countries to participate in the testing events, promoting vaccinations, but pursuing various testing regiments. The August 2, 2014 article, West Africa: What are US Biological Warfare Researchers Doing in the Ebola Zone? by Jon Rappoport of Global Research pinpoints the problem that is facing African governments.

Obvious in this and other reports are, among others:

(a) The US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), a well-known centre for bio-war research, located at Fort Detrick, Maryland;

(b) Tulane University, in New Orleans, USA, winner of research grants, including a grant of more than $7 million the National Institute of Health (NIH) to fund research with the Lassa viral hemorrhagic fever;

(c) the US Center for Disease Control (CDC)

This is the kind of propaganda relief workers are facing in Liberia and Western Africa.

Here’s today’s cartoon from the Liberian Daily Observer:

AIDS is manufactured by idiots fucking without protection.

Can someone here please go over the vectors of transmission again. I've read lots of conflicting reports.

Give a comparison to another widely known pathogen if possible. Is this spreading like smallpox, measles, chickenpox, obviously not flu, but something comparable?

Sierra Leone just added 3 districts to the quarantine. Now 2 million of their 6M population are under quarantine.

I think there's conflicting reports because no one knows for sure.

Here's what the CDC says below about transmission. I don't know...i just find it strange that some of the top Ebola doctors on the planet, who know better than anyone about taking extraordinary precautions, are getting it. Has it mutated? :conf (11):

Transmission
Because the natural reservoir host of Ebola viruses has not yet been identified, the manner in which the virus first appears in a human at the start of an outbreak is unknown. However, researchers believe that the first patient becomes infected through contact with an infected animal.

When an infection does occur in humans, the virus can be spread in several ways to others. Ebola is spread through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with

  • blood or body fluids (including but not limited to urine, saliva, feces, vomit, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola
  • objects (like needles and syringes) that have been contaminated with the virus
  • infected animals
  • Ebola is not spread through the air or by water, or in general, food. However, in Africa, Ebola may be spread as a result of handling bushmeat (wild animals hunted for food) and contact with infected bats.
Healthcare providers caring for Ebola patients and the family and friends in close contact with Ebola patients are at the highest risk of getting sick because they may come in contact with infected blood or body fluids of sick patients.

During outbreaks of Ebola, the disease can spread quickly within healthcare settings (such as a clinic or hospital). Exposure to Ebola can occur in healthcare settings where hospital staff are not wearing appropriate protective equipment, including masks, gowns, and gloves and eye protection.

Dedicated medical equipment (preferable disposable, when possible) should be used by healthcare personnel providing patient care. Proper cleaning and disposal of instruments, such as needles and syringes, is also important. If instruments are not disposable, they must be sterilized before being used again. Without adequate sterilization of the instruments, virus transmission can continue and amplify an outbreak.

Once someone recovers from Ebola, they can no longer spread the virus. However, Ebola virus has been found in semen for up to 3 months. People who recover from Ebola are advised to abstain from sex or use condoms for 3 months.

Africa seems just fucking awful.
