ESPN NBA Future Rankings

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Let's all try to remember that the article says these rankings are based on how ESPN thinks these teams will do in the next three seasons.

Next season only? Spurs are #1 until proven otherwise. Next three seasons? Who has the roster most capable of dominating the league for next three years?

While I don't personally think the Spurs should be #1, I don't have a problem with it. Duncan is the factor, if he retires, that team drops off from contender status. But everyone knows that.

In 3 years, won't he be 40? I don't want to look it up, but I thought he was 37. It isn't impossible that he still plays at that age, but we can all agree it is not likely. Duncan is the reason they are #1, and he is the reason they should not be #1 imo.

He's presently 38. His birthday is in April, so he'll be 39 for this years post season. He's at the very end of the road. Any year could be the season where he is done.

So in other words, there is an incredibly small chance he is still playing next year (at a high level anyways), and almost no chance he is still playing the third season of this ranking.

Duncan retires when his contact ends with pop imo

Spurs at 1? Once pop, Duncan, manu retire they will struggle to be a playoff team.
you have to factor in a team's track record for stability, ability to draft, and ability to attract free agents, and ability to just consistently field a winning product. that being said, anyone who sees any team having a brighter short term future (barring drastic changes, like KD ending up in san antonio, but stuff like this is impossible to predict or count on) than the cavs is simply an idiot imo.

I actually had this discussion with a friend who is a Wizards fan.

Let's put this scenario out there: say KD returns "home" to Washington, does that give them more long term and/or short term promise/potential than us?

Did this rubbish of kd possibly returning home happen after lebron james made his decision?

If so it's ridiculous, because both situations are completely different.

Durant has never played for the wizards, Durant has never promised Washington a championship, Kevin Durants Okc team is younger and better then the wizards. Kevin durant will be 27 when he hits free agency having not won a championship. So I don't think signing with the Washington wizard, where your 2nd and 3rd best players are john wall and bradley beal will give him any better chance than staying with okc.

Things might change. The wizards could be really good this year. Maybe get to the the finals. That small forward that they drafted (can't remember his name) might turn out to be amazing. However I just don't see it.

Soz.

Actually they have really attracted free agents there.
