Fallout 4

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I was really disappointed in the lack of guns in the game. It sucks that every gun is basically the same. Once you've found one plasma pistol, it's as good as any other after you've upgraded it. And as far as I can tell, the only difference between a regular gun and a "rare" gun dropped by a legendary enemy is that the rare guns have names. They don't seem to have any other special qualities, outside of already having some upgrades. It's disappointing. I'm nowhere near done with the game and I already have all the guns outside of the railway rifle, and the perks to upgrade them all fully.

Totally agree..

Only thing I would point out is that Legendary enemies do drop weapons that have unique perks.

What you'd do at that point is break down your comparable weapon, take all the mods off it, and put them onto the unique weapon thus combining the two and adding the perk.

Overall though, I agree, the system sucks. It's also a shame that these perks are somehow intrinsically associated with some ethereal part of the gun that can't be transferred and combined with other parts of other guns.

Doesn't seem like they thought that through.

I just finished the exterior of Fort Brickman, along with the interior lighting. Apparently you can only build five stories high in Sanctuary. I've heard that building height varies based on location, although this is the tallest building I've tried to build so I can't confirm that. You're also limited by the settlement size bar, which also varies based on location. The game allows you to build a hell of a lot more in Sanctuary, for example, than in some other settlements.

I still need to fill out the interior with furniture and walls and such, but I'll get to that later. I may also make a few minor changes to the exterior, although I don't know what I'd change as of now. The game kind of inherently limits you because the selection isn't great, and there are no pillars that you can build, which makes some stuff I would have done look awkward.

I did figure out how to make windows. I just took a door and added a little waist high wall. It's not perfect, but it'll do.

How long did that take you Jack? I've finally gotten around to starting to build a bit in Sanctuary and all I've done was clear out all of the useless debris for parts and have turned the main house thing where the workshop bench is into a bar/common community area.

Two or three hours.

That said, I've spent a ton of time building at my various settlements and slowly learning new things, so I absolutely would not have been able to build Fort Brickman when the game came out, or even a couple of days ago.

The building in this game is really touchy and not very intuitive.

On a side note, does anyone know if we are going to get a new Start Wars game like KOTOR 3 anytime soon?

Im going to wait a bit on buying Fallout 4 myself since Halo 5 just released the classic Big Team Battle. Having too much fun with that and GTA 5 to be able to give Fallout 4 the time it deserves.

I've just spent the last 2 hours building a basketball court in my settlement. I'm still not finished, need to add seating, lighting and other such things. But the court with benches is ready. And the upper seating is too, but it's all standing room. Knowing me, I'll scrap it all and completely redo it even larger before the day is done.. Time to go adventuring and replenish my supplies.

I don't think you'll see KOTOR 3 anytime soon. The rumor was that they were remaking KOTOR 1, essentially going back to the Revan arc.

However, Disney seems more than happy to license out Star Wars -- we're seeing new ST shit everyday. So who knows.

So what is the point of this game? Just find supplies and build stuff?

No. It's still Fallout; but they based the game entirely around this system of modification and mod-ability. Having seen what users were doing with New Vegas, I'm sure they decided this would get people hooked on playing the game.

Personally, I don't do any of the building whatsoever, and I'm actually hating the need to do any of it for my weapons and armor. I actually liked New Vegas' system of limited mods because it seemed like if I wanted to spend time breaking down ammo and finding mods I could, but if I didn't want to, I didn't have to.

This seems more forced. Like, if you don't mod your guns, you will fucking suck; guaranteed. There's no real way around that, and I'm not happy with the decision to force this onto the player.

As far as building houses and shit -- I'm not doing that. At least not at this point.

p.s.
There is already a mod that gives you all the misc junk supplies you need in abundance, so you can ignore the scavenging aspects of the game.

There is also talk of mods that would put the New Vegas weapons back into the game, and also add a few merchants for standard buying and selling.

And to any new players thinking of starting a new game, charisma/speech/barter (all wrapped into the Charisma perk tree) in this game is totally worthless. Use this as a dump stat. You shouldn't have a Charisma higher than 1 for most builds.

To be fair, New Vegas is the best Fallout game.

I went ahead and used console commands to give myself a shitload of materials. I spent the first 25-30 hours of the game scavenging the wasteland for parts and it was fine, but I decided that I wanted to play the game like a Fallout game from there on out and only grab things there were either useful or valuable enough to be worth their weight, just like I did in Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

I'm enjoying the game a lot more now that building is a fun diversion (not having to worry about if you have enough ceramics to build a turret is nice) and exploration is the true purpose. I'd already maxed out the mods on all my guns and armor, so I don't really consider this cheating. If anything, it's nice that I don't have to constantly worry about my settlements being attacked (because the game sucks at notifying you, and I often got the failure message without ever seeing the being attacked one) and can just spend an hour building if I want without having to roam the wasteland for six hours stealing every desk fan and vase that I come across.

Well... :chuckle:

They each have their own charms.

I like New Vegas more than Fallout 3, but that definitely wasn't the case when the game was released. FO:NV grows on the player the more they get into the game and the sheer amount of depth put into the game mechanics. It's a much deeper game than Fallout 3.

That being said, Fallout 3's atmosphere was phenomenal. The desolate wasteland of Washington D.C., the factions of Brotherhood, Three Dog's radio station; it was really a great game on it's own.

New Vegas took that, and improved much of it, but like KOTOR2, also left some things feeling unfinished. It's interesting how Obsidian chooses to spend their time and resources.

All in all though, I don't think either of those games are better than Fallout 2; and, I'm not far enough through Fallout 4 to say one way or another. I won't give a definitive answer for at least several more months I think.

Yeah man, I totally agree with the decision. A lot of people do..

It just seems like scavenging is such a critical part of the game, wherein, it had never been that important in Fallout before. At least, not to such an extent that you're stealing desk fans and microscopes.

Essentially they took the crafting system and made it an essential part of the game, and in doing so, this actually warps your character builds, perk levels, etc.

So yeah, I totally get why one would do it with console commands / mods. It just seems like it'd be way more fun that way. I mean, look at the shit you built!

Honestly, I probably could have build that whole building without the console commands. Almost all it is is wood and steel. The whole building is powered by one generator (light bulbs just require a power source...they don't actually take a point of power), and that includes the four turrets on the top floor.
