Farewell, Richard Jefferson.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly I don't think he had enough time. He was comfortable shooting early, started missing and never got to play again.

I think he could have contributed a good amount, especially if we let him play through it.

Im starting to really like the rj move

I know some others made a comment on this previously. The benefit with a guy like RJ is he's been playing the role the Cavs will ask him to play for the past 3 years now. Marion had never played that few minutes in his career. Early on, he was getting a lot of minutes as we were still feeling things out as a team and LeBron very obviously was not "right."

He had a string of 14 straight games early in the year where he played 23 min or more in each game. Then he got injured. Once we made the trades, Marion went from being a necessity to an afterthought, primarily because we got better, younger players. By the time he was needed again in the playoffs, it was obviously extremely unexpected. I'm sure he was mentally and physically done at that point.

Unless we make another trade during the season, RJ is always going to be asked to do the exact same thing. Play 10-15 min as LeBron's backup, hit open shots, play whatever defense you have left, and grab a couple rebounds. Once Marion stopped hitting shots, he lost any value he had to this team.

great pos
Mo is a playmaker, added him.

Jefferson is a vet min guy to replace what Marion and the ghost of Mike Miller was supposed to be.

If he performs like he did last year, then he is a perfect addition to the bench.

Perfect doesnt mean home run addition, we already hit all of our homeruns, off season expectations were crazy,

At this point we added two shooters who averaged over 40% from 3 and are on pace to resign all of our vets and get a trade exception to use at deadline if there are any injuries.

We gain back 3 players who were starters when they went down, all in all, its a very good offseason, but fan expectations are always so far beyond reality. Last year was the pipedream offseason come true. Then we had to incredible trades. This offseason is just about keeping the band together, not about creating a superfriends off season. That has already been done.

Great post!

Not that I don't agree, but I don't think the expectation was to get more superstars or anything like that. The expectation was based on the Joe Johnson rumors and David West possibly coming here for the minimum, which both could have been very realistic and possibly other options I don't even know about, but they just didn't pan out.

We don't "need" much, heck, I don't think we needed to add a single player to get back to the Finals. But the West is getting tougher. Clippers, Houston, Spurs, and healthy OKC.

Spurs are really the team I'm most afraid of, they got very strong and were dangerous before. Clippers made some rather risky moves and I'm not that afraid of them because I'm not sure they will pan out. Houston will be very good healthy and even better with Lawson. I'm not that afraid of the Warriors honestly.

But like I've been preaching, it's all about health for us. And that is why depth is so important for us. Mo and RJ should help that. Moz should naturally help Andy's minutes but I hope we get another big still. The deeper the bench, the better for us. It's usually the healthiest team that wins at this stage.

Kidd Kittles RJ and Kenyon was an underrated core. Very good individual defenders. Too bad Kittles could never stay healthy and Kidd only got a jumpshot after his prime was over

Just watching some highlights from his output last season. If having the ability to do things like this at his age makes him outdated and impotent, then I'm not sure what to go with next. Seems he can still be very useful and can provide something a little different/more impacting than what our previous/current veterans give us.

Thanks. Now I think 50% of the posts in this thread have that video. Woohoo!

Who is the second 40% shooter? Jefferson shot over 40 from 3, but last year Mo shot only 34% from 3. Been quite a number of years since he was over 40%.

The primary reason for signing Mo is because of the need for a back-up ball handler, not solely to shoot spot up 3s, though I guarantee his % will go up this year because he will have plenty more good shots instead of having to create everything on his own. Him not playing on a shitty team is a bonus as well.

I agree with this -- Mo is the backup ball handler/offense initiator on the second unit. Jefferson should be the spot up shooter on the second unit.

Those are some old legs though. I hope Blatt learned to Popovich his veterans from last season, play them less than 65 regular season games.
