Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good read on Mozgov....

Simon said:
"It wasn't even really a court," Mozgov says. "When you drove and came down, you had to be really careful [of the curb]. You could get injured every time."

Under Irvin's watchful eye, Mozgov was put through six hours of workouts per day. Footwork was emphasized. Film was studied. Yoga was mandatory. Irvin's camp also helped Mozgov adjust to America off the court.
Terrific read Simon, thanks.

(Post #1398)One thing I had noticed about Mozzy is how good he is at protecting himself from injury through excellent footwork and hanging on the rim for a half-second after a play to avoid coming down on someone's ankle.
(#856)PS- Perhaps Lebron would lend him his yoga instructor as well. That seems to possibly have done something for him...
Yeah, I figured :chuckle: :git:

I gave the Moz trade a 'B' and for now I'm sticking to it. I still think there are some glaring holes in his game that he needs to work on:

  • pushing the outlet pass
  • keeping the ball up high after rebounds
  • going stronger to the hoop [AC consistently mentions throwing the defender into the hoop]
  • rounding off the stone hands, etc.
I will be watching his play closely in the playoffs.

I think the trade on the day of the trade might rate a B, but when you now see what impact he's had and some of the less obvious skills he has, I think Griffin's move would rate higher, especially considering that it's kind of hard to win a championship with Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson as your center.

Mozgov is on a very short list of big men who can do the following:

Make free throws at a good rate (hes roughly 75% career, possibly higher than LeBrons career average)
run the floor/score on fast breaks
block shots/alter shots
hit midrange shots
be physically intimidating/exhibit toughness

He's similar to Tyson Chandler statswise, and we saw what Chandler did for the Dallas team back in 2011 or whenever it was. He's a real factor defensively. The stone hands thing is frustrating but I think over time we could put him more and more in situations where that isn't a liability if he can't seem to overcome it. Then consider his salary is low, were not paying this guy 15 million a year to be a Dwight Howard center. Also the 2 draft picks we gave up aren't likely to be a lottery calliber pick I don't think, probably will be late first round picks.

To be fair, he has way better hands than Vitaly Potapenko did, so not buying the stone hands thing, at all. I mean, if the difference is between him shooting 60% when he's on, and a mere 50% when he's "off"...that's a fantastic problem to have :chuckle:

I think if someone were to pull down his growing touches per game, that would be pretty clear.

The only thing Vitamin P could grip w/ his hands when he played was a bottle of vodka.

His hands really do hurt him. Otherwise, he has a lot of good things going for him: size, strength, length, decent footwork, ok post game, ok jumper, aggressive. He has enough attributes that in the right situation he could get consideration for an All-star game but and it's big but his hands really make it difficult for him to maximize the rest of his skills and abilities.

It's not just the TO's but he also misses chances at dunks and layups because he can't corral the ball and the number of rebounds he gets is reduced because the ball gets taken away. Reminds me of Shumpert's handle, he's another guy with a lot of things for him but I doubt he'll ever take the "Leap" because of his handle

My view of the big guy and Tito talking it over last night
