Farewell to Sergey Karasev

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

Going into full bore post-draft hyperbole here, but dude's stroke is honestly Allen-esque. Fell in love the first time I saw it.

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

I assume that CG, Sergey, and Papa Karasev all spoke about it before the draft. He plays a position of need for us, and if his camp truly believes in his abilities, he will come to the NBA. Also, his family likely isn't poor, so at this point, I wouldn't get too hung up on him staying in Russia.

I like the Thunder Dan comparison. I hope that he's more like Dan than Mike Miller. The explosiveness is there, which means that I can convince myself that lateral quickness won't be a horrible problem. Give him a couple of years to figure out defense, and we should have a quality piece on our hands.

Heard some great things about Karasev today from #Cavs. They were surprised he didn't go much earlier.

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

If this guy threw rifle passes like Ginobili, that wouldn't be a terrible comparison. They both shoot well, pass well, don't handle all that well, and don't play D that well. I hope Kara isn't a huge flopper though

Come on, man. He's a Euro. He's gonna flop.

Ginobli is Argentinan... But Karasev is going to be a terrific player. Not just a shooter, he can drive and make plays for teammates. Very happy with this pick & draft.

Okay...perhaps I should have said, "He's a white foreigner. He's gonna flop."

And Argentinean is basically Euro. Come on.

FWIW...

The Cavs seem pretty confident this kid will be on their roster.

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

Cavs could have some fun 3pt shootout competitions in practice with Karasev, Irving, and Ellington. I think Karasev has a ton of upside. While shooting will likely be how he contributes most in his rookie year, the guy is still only 19 and has plenty of other skills. Once he gets on an NBA weight training program, he could be a very solid player.

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

This was Lloyd's take:

---
^ No one thought entering the draft Sergey Karasev would still be around at No. 19, but no one thought Thursday night would turn out the way it did. Karasev is currently playing for a team in Russia – he took a flight from New York back home for a game tonight – but no one expects any hang-ups with his buyout. He will be with the Cavs in the fall.

Buyout? I could've swore that his Russian contract was up before the start of the NBA season. Now him turning down a bigger sum of money from Russia to play here...that might be a problem but from all sounds it is not.

I seem to remember hearing there was no buyout involved, as well....

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

Serg is the love child of Manu and Kukoc....... really like his game...he is a crafty lefty with a smooth outside stroke and more athleticism than people think...Dad is a coach and a former PG so I assume he is a guy that knows how to play the game

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

Karasev played on the Russian Olympic basketball team as an 18 year old. Other teammates included Alexey Shved, (who Grant tried to sign last year), and Andrei Kirilenko. AK has an option for this season. I wouldn't mind adding him as a veteran presence and easing SK into the league.

Re: #19: Sergey Karasev

1. Wonder how Karasev did in his game today after red-eying it from NYC back to Russia(8-10 hours flight?)

2. If Kirilenko opted out, would love to sign him for a 1 year deal to start at SF and mentor Sergey
