But there are plenty of guys who don't conform to that style, and they tend to be the guys that are the most fun to watch in the ring. It's pretty clear that Triple H is doing what he can to bring a more indie style to WWE, but he's obviously being held back by Vince and Dunn. Honestly, I think the product will get a lot better once Vince either retires or dies and Dunn is forced out, leaving Trips and Steph completely in charge. They're not perfect, to be sure, but they at least seem to be open to change, whereas Vince is still stuck in the 1980s.

I stopped watching wrestling back in 2001 or 2002, right around the end of the Attitude era. What brought me back the past couple of years is guys like Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro, and others of their ilk who can actually show me compelling matches that I don't feel like I've seen a hundred times before. Even guys like Ambrose who don't break out crazy new moves every match are fun to watch because I know they're capable of doing so. I know an Ambrose PPV singles match is going to be good to great. I know a Kevin Owens PPV singles match is going to be good to great. Sames goes for Rollins and Cesaro. I never feel that way about Ryback PPV match, unless of course he's going against a guy like Owens or Rollins.

Do you know how I feel when I watch Ryback matches? Bored. He's basically John Cena ten years ago. He's got that look that Vince loves and so, even though he's not a very good wrestler, he gets a push.

And really, I don't get why we should keep defending the bullshit company style. It's what made the company so stale to begin with after the Attitude Era ended and they didn't have dominant personalities like the Rock or Stone Cold to carry the product despite the lack of quality wrestling. The fans should be pushing them to promote guys who are actually amazing wrestlers, not simply guys who look the part which is what Vince has been doing for decades.

The crowd can absolutely make stars, too. Lest we forget how hard the WWE tried to bury Daniel Bryan in the midcard because he didn't look like a star before they finally gave in to the crowd and made him a champion. It's just a shame he couldn't stay healthy.

TMZ sports reporting the injury is so serious that doctors can't yet determine a long term prognosis.

Sting's manager, via Sting's official facebook page, posted the following:

“As many of you may already know, Sting is undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in last night’s match with Seth Rollins. Doctors will continue to evaluate his condition, but he is a man of remarkable health and resiliency, especially at his age and with all he’s endured throughout his stellar career. Therefore, we are optimistic he will have a speedy recovery and return to full health soon. Sting has kept his body in excellent shape, due largely to the guidance he’s received from his personal trainer Jeff Cavaliere (ATHLEAN-X), and we trust this will prove beneficial to the recovery process. As a side note, we later learned the greatest damage to his body took place before the match was over, but being the true professional he is and among the hardest workers to ever step foot in the ring, he insisted to see the match through to the end.” -Steve Martinez

Sting kicking off Raw with a "major announcement". I really hope he's not retiring tonight

I haven't been watching wrestling for over a year, but who the fuck every thought that corner bomb move would be a good idea? You're asking for something to go wrong when you throw a guy into an uneven, hard surface like that.

He does it outside the ring sometimes too into the barricades, which looks even worse. Generally, I think it's a move that someone young and in great shape can take, but an old guy like Sting? That's just asking for an injury.

Sucks for Rollins, though. Another signature move from him that's gonna get banned. I never really thought the curb stomp looked that dangerous, though. Actually, it looks a lot less dangerous than most other moves.

I figured Sting was hurt when he duck and fell from a missed clothesline.

The counterpin Rollins did to finish the match was simply amazing.

but yeah both the Owens and Rollins match ended with counters that resulted in quick pins. usually something reserved for little guys wrestling much bigger guys or against all odds wins which neither match seemed that way.

Also I dont know if Rollins walking back to the ring when Sting didnt get up was planned or if Sting was supposed to go get him but Rollins looked pretty convincing at seeing Sting vulnerable and ripe for the win.

Based on what we know, it's pretty obvious they called in audible in the Sting match when he just couldn't go any more. It sounded like he got hurt a couple of times during the match, with that last turnbuckle power bomb being the one that did him in.

The Owens/Ryback ending was obviously meant to protect Ryback and cement Owens as a heel. Personally, I think that match would have been a lot better if they had let the guys actually wrestle, but it still told a decent enough story with Owens working the arm, Ryback fighting back, and Owens finally having to cheat to win. I'm fine with that kind of story-telling, even if it would have been nice to see a more definitive ending than a roll-up.

I just generally don't think PPV matches should end with roll-ups. They are boring, anti-climactic endings. They work fine during TV shows when you're establishing story-lines and guys as heels, but they just kind of suck at a PPV. I'll give a pass to the Sting/Rollins ending, though, since Sting was legit hurt and probably wasn't capable of taking another bump.

I didn't know they banned the curb stomp, which I agree isn't any crazier of a bump to take than something like the Pedigree.

Yeah. They didn't publicly ban it, but said it happened behind the scenes. Maybe he gave someone a concussion or something. I didn't follow it all that closely. I just remember reading about it after Wrestlemania.

But yeah...you see a couple of moves in almost every match that look as dangerous or worse than the curb stomp.

I read an article just now that said he never hurt anybody with it but it was a PR decision to have him stop doing it because they felt it was too violent looking and didn't want kids attempting it. Who the hell knows the real reason, but it's dumb nonetheless because I thought it was pretty cool even in its simplicity.

That's even more annoying, then. He's a fucking heel. Let kids imitate Cena and his terrible finishers.

Im surprised they let Bo dallas have that little neckbreaker off the top rope.. must have been his gift for taking beatdowns from rock and lesnar
