Favors and Harris to Utah for Deron Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It still amazes me that the Nets came away from this deadline with a better player than the Knicks while giving up less than they would have. Good first deadline for the Russian (whether he pulled the trigger or not).
Yeah, but the Knicks already got their extension done with Melo whereas the Nets are gonna have to probably convince Williams for some time...Nets move is at much more of a risk...

Nets got a better player (arguably)

Knicks got what they needed

i'm with those who think this is a great deal for the jazz. i got a little behind in the rumors, but wasn't Favors the disputed piece to the Melo trade? this would've been a totally even trade if the Nets had included one of the picks, but utah came out ahead overall. especially considering the possibility that Deron is a rental.

usually both teams involved in trades aren't desperate, but i think this was the case here - nets needed to make a big splash after missing out on Melo
- utah noticed the sandiness of deron's vagina increasing

it's hard to be desperate and lucky, but i think utah pulled it off

I recently read an article on NBA.com that says Howard wants to get into acting when his career is over so my guess would probably be LA.

The fact that he still hasn't signed his extention even though his eligible means HE WANTS OUT , unless, of course, they WIN (or significantly improve.)

lol. . .

Oh NVM, his just waiting for that sweet new CBA to roll around.

Howard would be leaving around $20 to $30 million dollars if he signed an extension now, as well as lose all his leverage.

What the hell leverage is he going to have after the new CBA? I know you want to believe, but much like Melo, him not signing with a new CBA coming that is sure to lock-down on top salaries is a sign he doesn't want to stay.

The amount of years a player plays in the NBA changes the amount of money and raises he can make. Dwight signing an extension now not only would drastically lower the amount of max money and max raises he would be able to make if he instead extended in 2012, but it also eliminates pressure from management to make the team better (and instead settle). He loses all of that if he does it now. This is a completely different situation than Melo's.

I definitely think Dwight is out and of course so is CP3, but I don't think the Lakers are the destination for Dwight... In fact, I think you're starting to see where new and different franchises are becoming the "it" thing... New York and Brooklyn will definitely have big time talents and I think Chicago is obviously going to blow up as well... I don't think these players care to keep the Lakers relevant, so I don't think you're going to see players flock there like Laker fans want to believe--- the Clippers are far more intriguing and I can see that as being the team players will want to take a look at if the opportunity presents itself and pending of course Donald Sterling not messing it up...

Orlando is an interesting collapse because they were forecasted as being the "it" team moving forward just 2 seasons ago.... Building that new arena and having a fairly young and talented team-- but, as of right now, they cannot compete with the movement that is taking place in the NBA.... Orlando just isn't seen as sexy as what is about to happen in New York and what can potentially happen in Brooklyn... I don't see players flocking to Orlando...

Go get 'em, Otis...

As of now Downtown Brooklyn does not offer much... I am really curious to see the end result of this new arena... I think the move of the Nets to downtown Brooklyn is going to blow up in a great way... I cannot wait for this to happen... A sports team in down town Brooklyn is going to be awesome...

good news: made the cavs legit contenders for the no. 1 pick now

Great. That's the situation right now. Situation after the season is likely to look much different. Even if they keep the same basic idea that the more years you are in the league the more you can sign for, there is still a very good chance that the salaries will be cut by a large enough amount that Howard would end up making more if he went ahead and signed this year instead of waiting until after the new CBA comes out.

Likely. . . no one knows.

But if you were to ask any player: would you rather get $100 million now, lose any leverage you had over management, and possibly lose the chance of getting paid $130 million

or

keep leverage, put pressure on GM to make the right moves and make the team better, and sign for $130 or maybe with the new CBA end up getting $100 million

which do you think they would choose? Signing extensions before FA isn't wise for any player. . . Duncan didn't do it, Dirk didn't do it, and Howard won't do it. . .

Him not signing the extension that would come before his ETO doesn't mean he's leaving, it means the team is gonna have to do make him extremely happy whether it's in playoff success or with trades. Take that pressure away from the GM and Howard could not only get screwed financially but also professionally.

Holding the jersey like it has aids...
