Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)
I realize it's only one game, but still. What is our offense just going to magically be different next game? It is has been this way since MB has gotten here, and it was the exact same tonight. What is going to change? I am so sick of watching us play rec basketball on offense. That is honestly what it is. We give it to one guy and watch him dribble around. It's just annoying.
Anyways, can anyone explain to me why they think the "hard show" is a good thing? I have asked this question a million times and nobody answers why it is a positive.
All we do is "show", let the big roll wide open. Now our big has to run from the 3 point line back to the paint. Guess what when you have someone as slow as Z doing that, it is already too late. All this does is have our defense constantly scrambling around to help on defense.
I understand what it is supposed to accomplish, but it rarely works. Seriously, Ben did it the one play to Ray Allen and he was literally about a foot from half court. What is the point? Is Ray gonna pop a 3 from half court? This lead to Ben running back to his man that was already getting an easy layup. I hate it. Our defense would be so much better without it.
Why do you think all teams do against us is run pick and roll all game long? That is why. Because it leads to someone being wide open and us scrambling around trying to recover. It's like we don't even try getting through a screen to defend it, we just "hard show" and count on that.
Exactly what I was going to say.
There are two reasons for a show up from a big man during a pick and roll.
Either the screening player is someone like Ben Wallace who possesses no offensive threat or the other player is someone who constantly pulls up after dribble and hits the shots.
Of course, the big man who's used for a show up should be able to move his feet quickly. Bottomline is one needs an agile big man for that.
I have absolutely no friggin idea why Ilgauskas is showing up on Rondo or someone else to be honest.
The damn show up was the thing that got us killed in last year's game 7 against Boston. Even P.J Brown looked like a star lol..
We all say that it's the first game but nevertheless there were some other things which should be fixed immediately.
First of all, I was really shocked by the lack of effort. Surprisingly, only AV looked like he came in to play. Wally, Gibson, Ben heck even LeBron lacked the intensity.
Also I'm really bored with this FT missing issue. LeBron has no friggin excuse for going 4-8 from the line for f*ck's sake. I just wish that he'd end his multimedia routine for just one summer and practice on them. And for those of you who thinks that he does practice, please show me the results. There is absolutely no reason for a guy that talented to suck at the FT line unless he's not practising properly.
There were no offensive plays running except the random player isolation which DOES NOT WORK on teams other than Oklahoma City and such. When we traded for Mo, I thought that, we will watch some pick and pop's for Z, pick and rolls with LeBron and Mo... but we continued to run the same crappy iso plays over and over again.
I think there is no need to talk further about the rotation since everyone here did talk about it. All I'm going to say is that I still can't get why our 3 best players weren't on the court in 4th quarter until there was 8 mins left to play.
I'm not going to panic now but things looked grim in the first game. The lack of effort on the defensive end is also concerning. LeBron got abused by Pierce all game long. Wally on Powe? MB should eat up his goatee IMO.
