Game 1 | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

Guys no need for all the negativity here. We only lost by 5 to the defending world champions. Every team in the league would have been underdogs of at least 4-5 points to the Celtics on the road. At home this game probably goes to the Cavs. We are right where we need to be.
A top 5 team in the league, with the best player in the game on our team.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

Even though I did not watch the game, Joe Tait kept me in check.. However, some points I'm confused about.

-Offensive play calling. Now, during the final minutes.. Some questionable calls. Like when we are down 3 with about 20 seconds left(I think?), and we opt to drive with James. I don't have a huge problem with it, expect Boston has some good free throw shooters. So IMO, I'd try to go for the tie right there and then. However, looks like we kinda played for a foul.. Which isn't smart.

- Third quarters haven't changed one bit. Outscored 13-24.. 13 points in one quarter, after posting 28 and 22 in the first two, and then 22 in the fourth. Third quarters just kill this team year after year.. And nothing has changed.

- Gibson and Mo.. struggling to shoot the ball? Boobie, it seems like, had some good looks tonight(Remember, I didn't watch the game, just heard it), but he didn't hit them. He didn't hit them in pre-season, either.. Then again, neither did Mo. Dunno how to take this in.. Hopefully it's just more rust they are shaking off.

We can take some good from this loss though. We jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back till the third quarter, when we suck. Hopefully Mo and Boobie get their shots working again, and we can grab a win Thursday to improve to 1-1.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

im telling you the game is rig

You know, there is a reason nobody responded to your first two posts. It's because what your saying is freaking ridiculous. NOBODY can possible make an argument that the league stole this game from the Cavs. 20 turnovers caused this loss. LeBron playing like an All-star instead of a Superstar caused this loss. The game was not rigged. (Most of the posters are too kind and respectable to deal with this kind of BS. Fortunately, I am willing to demean myself to take out the trash.)

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

Gibson was pretty bad tonight too, his shots were off and I remember the play where he dribbled for 22 secs and took a fade away jumper with out ever passing the ball through out the possession.

Yes, he was off.

But, it's not true about that 22 sec play, the announcers were wrong. Pavs actually brought the ball up the court that possesion. Boobie didn't get it till at least the 8-10 sec mark. So, it was only like 12 secs he had the ball.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

I know it is one game, but here are what some of my fears were coming into the game that ended up coming true...

1. Continuing the stupid ass "hard show" on defense which leads to 1 big guarding 2 guys and an easy layup.

2. LeBron still can't shoot or make free throws.

3. Wright playing over Hickson.

4. Mo camping on the 3 point line watching LeBron dribble. And not running the point.

5. Our offense consists of all isolations.

6. MB would have a terrible rotation. (5 bench players all in at once)

7. Zerb would be playing PF and trying to guard them (a joke)

8. LeBron would still take very questionable shots in key situations.

9. LeBron playing very very bad defense. (everyone overrates him on D, he doesn't even try on D until there's 3 minutes left)

This is just some venting I guess, but most of it is true. Mike Brown is honestly a terrible offensive coach. He is truly horrible. Watch the youtube clip of LBJ saying after a playoff game "coach lets us do what we want on offense". That is 100% true. I gave up on the offense already right when for 4 consecutive posessions we isolated Sasha. Give me a freakin break. Our whole offense is isolating one player, and having the rest stand there.

If we use Mo like we did tonight, then what was the point of getting him? If we use him the same way, he is just a worse Daniel Gibson. Even when we run "plays", we just kinda go through the motions and it ends up in giving LeBron the ball at the top of the key. It's sickening to think about how long MB has been here, and our offense is still the worst.

I guarantee (and you all know it is true) that if LeBron wasn't here MB would be fired so fast because we would average like 80 points per game.

Wright over JJ?? WOW give me a freakin break. Ruin JJ's confidence some more MB. JUST PLAY THE KID!

Does he really expect Zerbie to guard PF's? That is laughable.

I am convinced LeBron has never practiced shooting FT's in his life. He is atrocious at the line.

And I know most Cavs fans think LeBron is the best ever and he is God, but damn is he stupid. He takes some of the worst shots I have ever seen. I think we were down like 4 or 5 with around 2 minutes left and he immediately jacks up a 3 and clanks. What was that all about?

10 seconds left, down 3 and we have LeBron drive for a layup? Come on now. Boston is smart. They will foul. EVERYONE knows he is missing at least one free throw and then the game is over. How can we not go for 3 there?

Sorry, just an angry Cavs fan venting. I know it is one game. But it is Boston, and I hate them. We're not winning the east if we can't win on the road in Boston. Are we ever going to beat a good team on the road?

I think I just have to accept we don't care about the regular season and it will always be this way with LeBron. We cannot have a great regular season record with this offense either.

Defense is more important than offense in the playoffs, but we have all seen where a terrible offense gets you in the playoffs even if you have great D, eliminated.

Edit: Geeze I forgot about our typical great 3rd quarter as a concern and our awesome press D which wastes no clock and only leads to easy buckets for the opponent.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

^^^ I see what you're saying... Just keep it in perspective... 5 point loss, on the road, against the champs, and most of the team played horribly...

There's still 5 months to get things sorted through, get a normal rotation, get some players in positions to succeed etc...

I refuse to push the panic button until at least game 5...

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

I realize it's only one game, but still. What is our offense just going to magically be different next game? It is has been this way since MB has gotten here, and it was the exact same tonight. What is going to change? I am so sick of watching us play rec basketball on offense. That is honestly what it is. We give it to one guy and watch him dribble around. It's just annoying.

Anyways, can anyone explain to me why they think the "hard show" is a good thing? I have asked this question a million times and nobody answers why it is a positive.

All we do is "show", let the big roll wide open. Now our big has to run from the 3 point line back to the paint. Guess what when you have someone as slow as Z doing that, it is already too late. All this does is have our defense constantly scrambling around to help on defense.

I understand what it is supposed to accomplish, but it rarely works. Seriously, Ben did it the one play to Ray Allen and he was literally about a foot from half court. What is the point? Is Ray gonna pop a 3 from half court? This lead to Ben running back to his man that was already getting an easy layup. I hate it. Our defense would be so much better without it.

Why do you think all teams do against us is run pick and roll all game long? That is why. Because it leads to someone being wide open and us scrambling around trying to recover. It's like we don't even try getting through a screen to defend it, we just "hard show" and count on that.

Exactly what I was going to say.

There are two reasons for a show up from a big man during a pick and roll.
Either the screening player is someone like Ben Wallace who possesses no offensive threat or the other player is someone who constantly pulls up after dribble and hits the shots.

Of course, the big man who's used for a show up should be able to move his feet quickly. Bottomline is one needs an agile big man for that.

I have absolutely no friggin idea why Ilgauskas is showing up on Rondo or someone else to be honest.

The damn show up was the thing that got us killed in last year's game 7 against Boston. Even P.J Brown looked like a star lol..

We all say that it's the first game but nevertheless there were some other things which should be fixed immediately.

First of all, I was really shocked by the lack of effort. Surprisingly, only AV looked like he came in to play. Wally, Gibson, Ben heck even LeBron lacked the intensity.

Also I'm really bored with this FT missing issue. LeBron has no friggin excuse for going 4-8 from the line for f*ck's sake. I just wish that he'd end his multimedia routine for just one summer and practice on them. And for those of you who thinks that he does practice, please show me the results. There is absolutely no reason for a guy that talented to suck at the FT line unless he's not practising properly.

There were no offensive plays running except the random player isolation which DOES NOT WORK on teams other than Oklahoma City and such. When we traded for Mo, I thought that, we will watch some pick and pop's for Z, pick and rolls with LeBron and Mo... but we continued to run the same crappy iso plays over and over again.

I think there is no need to talk further about the rotation since everyone here did talk about it. All I'm going to say is that I still can't get why our 3 best players weren't on the court in 4th quarter until there was 8 mins left to play.

I'm not going to panic now but things looked grim in the first game. The lack of effort on the defensive end is also concerning. LeBron got abused by Pierce all game long. Wally on Powe? MB should eat up his goatee IMO.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

Depressing. Not the game, but fans. Always this endoftheworld talk after losses. Hope you are not like that in real life, because it will get you nowhere.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

First quarter offense looked like what was practiced in the off season. Good ball movement, people cut thru the middle, set picks, and Mo had nice snap passes around the exterior. The next three quarters looked like the last three years of junk.

The small guard lineup looked small. I saw the ball movement early but then they became a liability throughout the rest of the game.

Coach Brown needs to tell this team who is offensive option 1, 2 and 3 every time he subsitutes. If we have a Wally on the floor then set him up. We don't run plays for the shooters on the floor.

We look like we don't know who is going to handle the ball going down the court. Mo, Lebron, Boobie or West. Then whomever does the rest run away from him.

Sasha is going to start due to default.

The second team looks challenged with Gibson at the point. Offense starts with 7 seconds left on the clock. The ball ends up in Wright's or Varejo's hand in some wack position with 2 on the clock.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

what a came....the third quarter seems to have a curse on us for some reason

let hope to win the next few games b/c boston is a tough match-up for us.....

i think mo needs to come out with the second unit..take him out like 5-6mins early in the 1st & then bring him in for the 2nd.......mo/pav/wally/av/wright

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

I guess the bright side from yesterday is that Lebron didn't bother showing up to the game, and they still almost beat Boston in Boston.

You could tell this team had problems playing uptempo as I feel that's what lead to most of the sloppy turnovers.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

How many home games did the celtics lose last year, like 6? This game went pretty much how I expected. After their emotional :)bigcry:) ring ceremony, the Celtics came out a little flat, and committed a lot of fouls, thereby letting the Cavs get to the line a ton in the first half. The Celtics calmed down at halftime, and came out and played some good defense.

Both teams played ugly, missed a lot of wide open looks, missed free throws, and had some careless turnovers. The Cavs just had more and were worse in all of those facets than the Celtics were. I thought Paul Pierce got a little more love from the officials than LeBron did, but once again, that is to be expected on the road. LeBron will have his share of love from the officials as the season progresses.

Any of the concerns I have I am not really taking seriously, as it was the first game of the year (and only a five point loss on the road against a 60-win team, for goodness sakes). I had already told myself prior to the game that I wasn't going to get too worked up with a Cavs victory, so I'm not going to get too worked up after a Cavs loss.

Re: Season Opener | Cavs @ Celtics Oct. 28th, 8:00PM (ET)

I didn't see the game till the 4th..and I'm not watching the tape either..
But I saw enough that it resembled a ton of games I've seen before..

Third quarter implosion..WHY????
Why was Wright in?
I thought he was someone(who was washed up) who really was only to be a body if Z got hurt?

Boston role players looking like allstars..getting loose balls..getting fouls..getting easy putbacks..
Cavs not showing any urgency at crunch time.. taking bad shots..
Lebron not hitting his FT's..team not shutting off the interior..

I do not like the Celtics never have never will and after one freaking game I'm sick of them already..
