Game 38 | Cavaliers @ LA Lakers | Tuesday, January 14th, 10:30 PM

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Only they weren't fouling, they were trapping going for the steal until the ball got to Tristan. Does anyone want jack on the court instead of Tristan there? Jack is our best foul shooter.

Great then you pass the ball around, shoot the ball at the end of the shot clock, game over.

Yeah they trapped a couple times, but they were going to foul eventually once we didn't turn it over immediately. They were always going to try to extend the game.

Plus, if we turn the ball over Tristan isn't making a difference because he'll be the one of the last guys down the court.

Really hope we can steal tomorrow's game. Because I can't see us winning in Denver, and if we can return from the road trip 3-2, that's a HUGE win for the Cavs.

You do know that Portland is a lot better than Denver and that we played a game tonight?

I enjoy how after recent wins, the conversation in game threads typically ends by focusing on how much Brown or Bennett sucks. :chuckles:

I didn't like what Brown did there, and I was surprised the Lakers were so smart about forcing the ball to Thompson and fouling him.

But I will take a road win against a crappy, undermanned team any time it is presented. It's a road win. A good day for the Cavs.

I can't believe that some of you are advocating Mike Brown leaving TT in the game, dead ball, up two points, 25.3 on the clock.

This is why Mike Brown is a horrible coach who's in over his head. Take TT out the game and put you 5 best shooters in. You don't play the what if's in that situation. Give the ball to one of your best FT shooters.

Would Doc have DeAndre Jordan on the floor in that situation? Would Phil Jackson put Shaq in in that situation. Maybe Larry Brown would have put Ben Wallace in to take the FT for the Pistons in 04. Mike Brown can't manage the rotations, he sucks at in game adjustments, can't develop young players and he's not a motivator. Remember when he called two timeouts and we had to inbund the ball to Earl Clark because we didn't have anymore timeouts? Once again Mike Brown sets up up to fail and there is no excuse for this bullshit.

And you can't sit here and say "well at least we still won the game" No that's hogwash. Good teams and good coaches will take advantage of us in those situations. The Lakers are a bad team but I dare you to try this shit against a playoff team, something we're trying to be.

well at least we still won the game

Ok if they are fouling why is TT in the game? If they are trapping why is TT in the game?

That has nothing to do with the discussion at end. Just because Nick Young ended up missing and the Cavs won, doesn't make the decision any less shitty. Oh they won, lets just not talk about Mike Brown going retard on the final possession.

exactly...that is the prototypical strategy of a team down a couple of points in that situation. even if there was only 23 seconds left on the clock, you go for the steal or trap with pressure defense, and if that doesn't result in a turnover you immediately foul

there was no way they were going to let the cavs run the clock down to two seconds

So you really take out Tristan, dion and Andy and sub in jack, miles and gee. I can only imagine the reaction on here with that substitution.

And why are you comparing a 68% foul shooter to sub .500 foul shooters.

I didn't debate any of that. Just an observation. Upthread I said what he did was stupid, and it was.

It is true that recent game threads often have focused on what has gone wrong in a win, rather than what has gone right.

you sub in the players with the best combination of passing, ball handling, and most importantly free throw shooting, and you don't sub in players who have sat the whole game ice cold expecting them to hit big clutch FT's. you can get away with one guy who doesn't fit that entire mold, like AV, if you stick him under the basket looking for an easy two instead of waiting for the defense to foul, which is exactly what AV did

don't go straw man, that's bush league

The fact is dion shoots almost the same as Tristan. Tristan also set a screen to get dion some separation for the inbounds pass. Dion got trapped by three players right above the half court line. The easily could have fouled him there. If you sit Tristan for being 68% from the line then you have to sit dion for shooting 69%. Sitting either guy brings in a guy cold from the bench. Tristan split his foul shots twice. Something we easilly should expect out of a 68% foul shooter.

dion is historically a better FT shooter and, much more importantly, was already 7/8 in tonight's game while TT was only 1/2

Varejao played 36 minutes tonight, Aldridge and Lopez going to be a hand full.

Odd stat from tonight.
