Game 49: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Milwaukee Bucks Friday, 3/30

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Bucks shot lights out, but we don't seem to recognize (inexplicably) the importance of rotating on D, getting back so guys don't leak out, and freaking hard fouling as opposed to letting them waltz to the hoop unchallenged.

Passing and swinging the ball on the Bucks part just didn't secure a win for them--it assured a blowout loss for us. There weren't any answers defensively. Much of that is talent (lack thereof) but it's coaching too.

This "what the fuck" meeting concerns me--not because I believe Gilbert and Grant are overreacting, but because it seems that Scott just isn't ok with "tanking" (as well all are) but with simply mailing it in--which is completely unacceptable. You can lose and teach which bodes well for future growth. Two rookies were out there competing while the rest of the team went through the motions--as did the the coach, which is why I believe the FO is pissed--and has every right to be.

Two years in a row now he's used the "Players don't know the offense" remark over half way through the season. At some point the reason why they don't know it has to be put on the coaching staff.

One of only 3 playmakers on the team was traded, the vets have checked out post the Sessions trade, Andy is still out, the younger core guys are getting more minutes and responsibilities but are also now playing far more games and minutes than they ever have, and the bench is mostly made up of D-Leaguers.

What's the big mystery.

That said, there is no excuse for lack of effort and focus, so if that was lacking tonight, it's on the players and Byron

I don't mind that Gilbert met with Byron Scott and Chris Grant. Effort/execution are problems, even with the small amount of time available for practice/etc. At the same time, Byron is a victim of his own success. Won a lot of games that seemed shocking in the first half, and now has plummeted. We'll see if Gilbert has the patience for how long it takes to rebuild.

I wouldn't mind if Holmgren comes down from the booth and takes over the coaching position.

Oh, hang on, sorry, wrong section.

Taking a look at the Cavs roster I don't see how it can be expected to perform well or win regularly. When you put out a team primarily comprised of D Leaguers, 2nd round picks, undrafted players and a few over the hill vets, the odds of success ain't exactly high. All the effort in the world can't overcome a serious lack of talent.
There could easily be only 2-3 players on the current roster who will be here 2 years from now.

This is what blowing up a roster and the early stages of a major rebuild look like. When you combine that with a few injuries the results are going to be ugly.
I respect Gilbert but if he has high expectations with this current roster than he's being foolish.

Everyone is forgetting that it wasn't that long ago that we won those three games in a row that included OKC. The difference between then and now is no Sessions or Gibson. We only have one PG left that was here from the beginning of the year, and he just sprained his shoulder. What little talent we had to start the year is disappearing from availability. It is gonna get uglier considering we are going to have to use two d-leaguers we just added as our pg's while Kyrie is likely unavailable.

I don't understand how anyone can be so surprised at what is happening on the court. A little more effort on the court, sure. But, the finally outcome is still going to be pretty ugly even with reasonable effort. There isn't much talent. Plus, almost no veterans left. This is what tanker's basketball looks like. This is exactly what you get when you do what a bunch of you have been demanding the club do with their roster. If Jamison goes down, I wonder if they can even score 70 points. Oh well, time to rack up the losses. Wonder if they lose out?

At this point in time, Irving is the only Cavs player(not injured, hello Andy) who would be in the rotation for a contending team in the NBA.

Gee and Thompson might get 10 minutes off the bench . Might.

The rest of the Cavs roster would be lucky to have a roster spot on any team in the league. There cannot be a worse starting guard in the NBA than Anthony Parker.

Cavs offense scores like a relic from the peach basket days of yore.

Hard to condemn Scotts' coaching performance based on that talent level.

But there is certainly some bad mojo going on with the team. The effort level for most of the players is worse than if they were mailing it in.

Chicken or the egg on whether it's more on the coach than the players.

Either way, this recent stretch of games is as bad as anything from last season.

Kyrie slamming that ball down in frustration after a timeout in the second quarter is the tip of the iceberg on the downside of losing.

Dan Gilbert ‏ @cavsdan
One of those nights where I can't find the words to match the emotions (at least non-profane words). Cavs fans deserve better. Much better.

So I've went easy on Dan Gilbert, because I believe he's doing the right thing with this team.

However, if Dan Gilbert expects to win right now and thinks its the coaches problem, I've got news for you Dan, your roster sucks bro.

I'm ok with the roster being bad, but I'm also ok with the coach not winning games with a terrible roster too. If Dan isn't ok with that, he needs to get a better roster than this. Seriously folks, we're playing like 5 guys who probably shouldn't even be in the league (Parker, Harris, Samuels, Sloan, Walton). You do not win with this god-awful talent. It was a miracle the team was as good as it was the first half of the season.

EDIT: And I almost forgot about the new guy, Lester Hudson.

Yea I'm sorry, but Red Auerbach couldn't win with this group.

From top to bottom, this is a bottom 3 team talent-wise in the league w/ Varejao hurt. I'd say only Charlotte and possibly New Jersey has less overall talent (maybe throw in Detroit).

Oh ok, I don't think it's that serious, just trying not to make it seem we're tanking as hard as we appear.
