Game 52 | Cavaliers @ Raptors Feb. 18th, 7:00PM (ET)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
^ Good points wuck... of course the big assumption in my post is that Wally would be agreeable to a sizeable paycut to leave a lesser team and come back here. Easy for me to say since it's not my bank account being affected. Sort of similar to all the trade scenarios we come up with here in with we freely spend Dan Gilbert's money for him.

I agree with you that a team that trades Wally to reduce salary probably wants to arrange a buyout (and save money this year and cut cap space). But this is the last close-to-max contract Wally is going to get, so you never know what his intentions are. I can imagine it would be a negotiation, rather than a clear cut agreement, if things come to that. He seems like a guy who would really want to win a championship. What would really blow is if Wally got bought out, and then another contender convinced him to play for them. With Tony Allen out for the season, do the Celtics try to sign him? Not sure I would like to see that.

I am so relieved we'll know more within the next 16 hours or so. The hypotheticals are always frustrating. And Wally has been a solid pro about the whole thing, on and off the court.

In case you guys haven't noticed LBJ has FINALLY started to use his legs on his jumpshot.BOUT TIME!

I loved watching the hustle from AV, TK, and JJ. Im starting to really be content with keeping JJ because he works so hard when he is out there and come next year when he has another summer to learn I think he could have a major impact on this team next year.

I also cannot wait to see delonte come back and actually see our original 5 back on the floor whether it is against Milwaukee or Detroit. All together, it was a very satisfying win against a depleted Toronto team. We played defense all game and took care of business with only 10 dressing.

How much money do you make in the playoffs? That could offset what Wally leaves, plus we can almost pay him what he loses from the MLE. I say only give him 4 M.

Ha! How awesome would it be if Wally went to the Celts again anad became the Abti-ass slapper. messing up chemistry and playing Wal-iso every time he was on the floor. Doing whatever he can to mess up their team? I guess that is something that has never happened, it seems like a Mighty Ducks type scheme.

my fav part of this game was the back to back block. both back to back blocks. wooo

while i still would be delighted to see that we got Amare tomorrow, being able to watch this team again, without 2 of our starters, and seeing the way JJ played, as well as Kinsey, made me feel better about us standing pat.

I believe the Cavs can only use a prorated MLE (around 1.9M at this point in the season) or veteran's minimum (around 400K now). Moreover, by the time the Cavs could sign Wally 30 days after a potential trade, these numbers would both shrink further. It's unlikely the Cavs could afford to give Wally more than 750K, or less than that, if it comes to that.

However, teams can also give multi-year deals, so that a UFA may not make much this year but could make it up in future years. Cavs multi-year MLE offer could look something like $1.9M, $5.9M, $6M, etc.

So is Boobie injured or not? There's nothing in the game recap about when he went down.

EDIT: Popcorn showed him as playing the last few minutes, so I guess it must not have been that bad.

From Windhorst's blog entry:

Daniel Gibson re-tweaked that left toe in the third quarter. He's OK but that injury just keeps dogging him. It is tough to get a toe totally healthy as anyone can relate.

It was a good sign to see him back in the game very quickly when it looked like he'd be out for another few weeks when it happened. Seems like something that will linger to some degree until the off-season, though.
