Game Thread | 2020-21 Season | Game #59 | Cavs @ Hornets | April 23, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sexton, Garland, and Allen look like our core for now. Hopefully add one more in the draft. Garland and Sexton had 55 points on 39 shots along with 8 assists and 11 rebounds. Those two plus Allen and Hartenstein had 80 points on 50 shots. The rest of the team had 22 points on 30 shots.

16 TOs isn't great but it's not a horrible number. Only forcing like 4 TOs is no Bueno however.

delly gave it back to the starters with a 84-83 lead in the 4th quarter and he has the team leading 7 assists in 13 minutes of play

the tank move is not letting him play a full game and get 20 assists

We lost because the Hornets tookn14 more shots than we did.. Can't give up 16 turnovers and think you are going to win..

16 isn't too bad, really. The Lakers average 15.5 turnovers per game and they do alright. The Warriors average 15, the 76ers average 14.8.

actually you can give up 14 turnovers and lead by 4pts in the 4th quarter, so i think you could win from that position especially because delly was out there giving everyone easy looks for 13 minutes

13/22 when delly was in the game is almost 60% shooting, but unfortunately most of those misses are from delly himself so it looks like he is playing badly and the coach removes him from the game, then the cavs turn to crap for the last 8 minutes

Ping-pong balls - we likes them.

We also likes dumping scrubs; if we can.

We don't have the talent level of those teams...

Lost the turnovers 16 to 5 and allowed 15 offensive rebounds, 9 by Biyombo. The Cavs couldn't force turnovers and couldn't control the defensive glass. The Hornets took 14 more shots as a result and won by 6 points.

I was impressed by Bridges. At 6'6", 225, he was too strong and quick for the Cavs to handle. He had 25 points and 10 boards.

Yeah, the Cavs' imbalance in scoring ability is stark. Garland and Sexton scored 55 points while Delly, Nance, and Okoro combined to go 3-for-18. OK, so we held the Hornets to only 108 points, but what good is that if you only score 102. Okoro was scoring in double figures for a while but he's getting away from being an offensive factor lately.

Wade has totally disappeared. One shot in 18 minutes. When he gets the ball he just holds it for a couple of seconds and gives it back to Sexton or Garland.

Washington was out when these teams played nine days ago. Tonight he had 25 points. Last game the Hornets scored 90; tonight they got 108. Washington was mostly responsible for that 18-point offensive improvement.

Hartenstein is getting better all the time with 15/5/2 in 15 minutes. He also forced a lot of missed shots. He continues to impress.

I got the impression the Hornets just wanted it more. They did not want to go 0-3 against the Cavs this year. They were fighting and scrapping on each possession, forcing turnovers and crashing the offensive glass. It worked.

I don't know if it's wanting it more, I just think in crunch time when both teams are going all out, it's easy to beat the Cavs. Outside of Sexton and Garland, there's no one else who can beat you. Outside of the perceived threat of Love, there's no one else on the floor the opponent even has to cover outside of the restricted area. Okoro had a decent stretch of games and now he's back to being the invisible man. Delly had a wide open 3 pointer in the 3rd quarter and was long and about a foot right, making it one of his best efforts this season. Our centers are good for lobs and put backs, but their offensive games scare no one. So we are playing 2 on 5, and no team will win that battle often.

The hornets played very physical defense and they called few fouls.

Collin has 5 fouls, but should have put him in earlier

I doubt his hearts really into it anymore,,maybe him and the team could work something out.
He is clearly awful at this point.
I remember AC screaming that love should just go back down when love was complaining to refs on a weak ass no call. And to do that in the middle of an opponent's run is an un-veteran move.

Where has the defense gone. It can't have been all Drummond? I miss that scrappy team forcing turnovers from the start of the season.

In the plus column it seems like garland is getting to the rim more often and with more success. Seeing less floaters recently

The Cavs centers need to block out better. Biyombo had 9 offensive rebounds in 27 minutes; Allen and Hart combined for 3 in 48. So Biyombo averaged an offensive board every three minutes while our centers averaged one every 16. The Cavs are 26th in defensive rebounding percentage.

Charlotte had 36 second chance points in a 6-point win. That was the difference in the game right there. On top of that, the Cavs had a big height advantage since Charlotte's tallest player was Biyombo at 6'8" while we had four players taller than 6'8".

Biyombo has destroyed the Cavz for years on the glass. He even dominated Tristan Thompson in the playoffs by getting over 20 boards in a playoff game.

Cavz had height advantage over the Pistons yet 6’-8” Isaiah Stewart wrecked Jarrett Allen the other nite. Some of best rebounders in History were 6’-8 and under.

Maybe the 6’-10” Mfiondu Kabengele can play this role in the future for the Cavz. He has those skills
