Game Thread | 2022-2023 Pre-Season | Game #1 | 76ers @ Cavs | October 5, 2022 | 6:00 p.m. Central Time

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really wish Caris would put on 10+ pounds of muscle and just commit to being our co-main defender. That would end all that whose starting Okoro or Caris BS.

Not so easy to do in your late 20s without steroids. Not going to happen during the season that’s for sure

The Good:

Garland -- looks even quicker.. can get to any spot he wants. Doesn't really need Mitchell.. can do whatever he fucking wants. A fucking blur.

Dean Wade -- looks like an improved shooter. He is really needed on defense.

Kevin Love -- looked sharp from 3. Should really help the spacing this season.

Shariffe Cooper -- 3pt shot away from being a great backup PG for the Cavs.

Raul Neto -- looked great all around. Excellent game and a good backup till Rubio is back.

The Bad:

Jarrett Allen -- not up to game shape.. looked tired and clumsy. Horrible misses. Decent defense though. Obviously not cocnerned at all.

Caris LeVert -- Don't see his role on the team. We will have enough creators on the bench and I have no idea what the heck was the idea behind starting him. Hope i'm wrong and he can provide something different that we need.

JBB -- Continues to be the achilles heel of this team. Starting Love and LeVert is just idiotic. Unguardable offensively, but can't guard a friggin chair either and LeVerts skillset is seriously not needed. Just give the ball to Garland bro. Would have liked to see some interesting sets.

Robin Lopez -- looked bad on both ends. Too slow defensively. Offensively he should be a good screener and that's it. We will see.

Cedi Osman -- more on the indifferent side. Looked erratic but is still needed. Will be okay.

The yeah man he improved...fuck wait a minute:

Isaac Okoro -- Looked decisive and quicker with the ball. Also shot looked better when he first came in. Thought he looked improved. A few minute passed and I realized he is still the same scared Okoro on this team.

The intriguing:

Dunno his first name Diakite -- looked pretty good to me. There is something there.

The Why he is still on the team Koby??? RJ Numbnuts. WTF Koby. Get your shit together.

Didn't know where to put Mitchell. Obviously he is in the good, but he is a known commodity. What I did like was the fact that he had no issues playing passive and letting others do their thing. Will obviously make us impossible to defend even with our degenerate coach. Looks like a good fit. Garland/Mitchell combo will be unguardable this season. Mitchell looked slower than the quick, shifty Garland but perhaps Garland is just that guy. Defensively it's going to be interesting, but Mobley will make everything so much easier. Lucky to have him. With all that being said, I hope they instill some good sets to make use of both Garland's and Mitchell's skillset in the same possession and not play my turn/your turn basketball...because they can both score at will, so yeah.

The bad defense was not interesting to see.. I just don't like trading buckets and getting into shootouts. Gives me flashback to our tamking days. Mobley will hopefully make us completely destroy teams. But JBB has to understand the idea of a balanced lineup. I know it's preseason, but I would never start Garland, Mitchell, LeVert, Love no matter what and I hope he doesn't plan to start LeVert.

I’m not too worried about JBB and lineups, the preseason is exactly for trying out lineups you might not want to use

What I am worried about is watching JBB matching up against a coach like Spoelstra in an extended series. Ouch
I think we have too much talent for Miami to beat us, even with a weaker coach.

Rewatching the game now.

My preseason game 1 take is seeya later Nembhard and hello Diakite

Just saw the first half.
Garland and Mitchell can get whatever the hell they want against PJ Tucker. I know it'll take the vet some time to get into gear, but that's big.

Donovan was active on defense, really like what I saw there.

Harden is in mid-season form. Love that he's over there in Philly. Absolutely love when he's on the court. I'm trying not to be too harsh, I know vets in preseason and the early year tend to be in a lower gear but...

Was happy to see some of that bs Embiid contested shots miss this time around. Joel was going half speed, but even still, was so sick of the contested jumpers he was hitting on the Cavs last year :chuckle:

Cavs were looking quick and decisive. Philly could not string together stops against that. Cavs easily could've had 70+ points at half time, missed bunnies + free throws had nothing to do with what the 76ers was doing defensively.

Not too concerned with the amount of points given up. Honestly the DG - Donovan - LeVert - Love - Allen unit held up a little better than I was thought they would on d, but not a big fan of that unit to start. JB did say throughout camp that they would be experimenting with different starters (at the three).

This season is going to be wild!!!

Watching replay, took AC under a half of preseason game 1 to suggest we give an opposing player a hard foul

Not commenting on all of it, but just highlighting that Garland might be about the most shiftiest player in the league at this point, which isn't Mitchell's game (obviously).

What a PITA they will be to guard for other teams.
