Game Thread | Game #17 | Hawks @ Cavs | Nov. 21, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We've all see the script play out. It is like clockwork.

Criticize coach/players after a good game - "Stop being a debbie downer"

Criticize coach/players after a bad game - "Stop overreacting, it's just growing pains"

Don't praise players after a good game - "Crickets in here hmmm where are all the haters now"

How's about we just impose a moratorium on trying to govern others' posts?

I would hope that critiques are welcome in the middle of a 10 game winning streak just as small victories are welcome in the middle of a ten game losing streak.

One Cav made the NBA top 10 list. Who was it and where did he place?

If Cedi was consistently good Cedi he’d be damn near max. 6’8 scoring 20 a game shooting 40% is close to a max. But obviously bad Cedi knocks him down like 80%
That sounds like Andrew Wiggins, our 1st round draft pick we traded for Kevin Love. I don't think he's a max player.

But if Cedi did this consistently, he'd start at SF for us and be close to an All-Star.

Infuriating TOs tonight.

38 and 39 minutes for Garland and Mitchell respectively. Use Neto. This can not continue. Players are injured...dig deeper. It's not even an excuse because it happens even when we are healthy.

Suboptimal lineup combinations and inability to take advantage of Trae Young. There is no way he should be resting on Okoro/Stevens all night.

I thought that going with Garland,Mitchell,Cedi,Stevens,Allen/Mobley should have been played more because of the Hawks scheme. That Lamar,Okoro lineup should not be ever a thing.

Would like to see Diakite instead of so many Okoro minutes.

Love's indivdiual defense really kills our overall defense.

Cavs with an elite shooter at the 3 will murder teams. So until they get that player, Dean Wade is the guy when healthy.

Garland and Mitchell can be unstoppable.

Happy they got the win, but a long way to go coaching wise. Thought it was not a good coaching exhibition by JBB and I believe the Cavs are just a terrible matchup for the Hawks. WE can exploit them, much much better. We need to set up easier shots, especially against a Trae Young team.
wow....

lets start with the easy one. youre upset that JBB isnt playing a deeper bench and that Love is playing. got it. There are possibly 3 guys that didnt play that arent injured or coming off injury and 2 of those are the last guys off the bench.

Both starting guards almost scored 30, both had 9 assists and you are upset the team didnt take advantage of Young? seems like they took significant advantage of him.

This board's obsession with Diakite is fascinating.... this is a guy that is on his 3rd NBA team in 3 years, literally wasnt on an NBA roster this time last year, and almost didnt make the team this year. temper your expectations.

JBB isnt perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but lets not pretend like the hawks arent good basketball team and that a win last night was just some foregone conclusion.

Had nothing to do with JBB.

I wasn't complaining about Love playing. Don't put words into my mouth. I was just stating a fact.

Yes, Neto should play. Diakite should play. Okoro isn't better than him, so he might as well be benched too. Obsession? What are you talking about. This coach stumbles into players by chance as in injuries. He has no imagination. Lamar is now a fucking starter...before that he wasn't even part if the rotation for what reasons lol?

A player not getting playing time under JBB has no barring on how good or bad he is. The fact that Diakite hasn't played on any team so far goes beyond his skills, and doesn't mean anything as far as him getting playing time on THIS team, which he fits well on.

Talk to me after he gets consistent playing time.

JBB is the Achilles heel of this team on the floor. Whatever he does off the floor us irrelevant.

Diakite is the new Zizic.

My all time favorite is IT (the midget, not Zeke). The posts for him before he was healthy anointed him as a savior, then he had a good first game and that status was confirmed. Within a week that stock crashed like crypto.

I'm not expecting anything from Diakite this season. If he does help us it's pure bonus.

Cavs are just a talented group. They should win.

I will continue to be critical of the coach regardless of Wins and Losses. He will be the one to lose them a crucial series with his coaching.

Nothing that I said was incorrect. We can't let Young rest on players. It's malpractice. Short rotations and heavy minutes will hinder this group.

Cavs are good. They can be amazing.

I know I need to enjoy the game a bit more. I'm aware of it, but I just can't let some of the things slide, in my mind. I should be better at enjoying the ride regardless.

Still, can't wait to find a great coach to lead this group.
I get you, @Sir'Dom Pointer . I see where you are coming from. You are thinking big picture, which is how Koby should be thinking, too.

"but I just can't let some of the things slide, in my mind"

can you not share these such things with the rest of us after we win the game? save it for when we lose a game?
Wins and losses are not all that matter. Sometimes the team plays well in a loss, and sometimes it plays crappy in a win. Honest critiques of the team’s performance are useful, regardless of the final score.

Word.

It's unbelievable to me how hyper-critical and nitpicky people are after what was probably the Cavs' 3rd best game of the season (after the two Boston games). The team looked GREAT last night, particularly in light of it being the back end of back-to-back games. For every bitch about, for example the turnovers, I can counter with "the quality and execution of shot attempts was phenomenal."

On balance, there's nothing to complain about last night's play. Bupkis.
19 turnovers. I can complain about that. If the Cavs don't shoot 60% and 55% on 3's they lose with 19 turnovers. Even then they needed the Hawks to turn it over 16 times themselves.

But overall, beating the 10-6 Hawks with LeVert and Wade out and Love going scoreless and looking like he was trying to avoid any contact on his thumb is a really good win.

This board is insufferable after a loss. Now after wins as well
If you have ever played sports competitively (and had a good coach) you know even after a win you talk about things you could have done better! My HS and college basketball coaches were similar in that respect. Even after a blow out win my college coach would say “those 8 TOs or 9 missed FTs could have cost us a victory in a close game”.
Bottom line….never be content!

The jarret poster not there wow
Yes. Only picking 10 plays out of the hundreds and thousands that occur every night is a hard one. As Cavs fans, we want our players in there, and so do all the other fans.

Objectively, it's really hard to rate one dunk over another. Is it the force? Is it the style? Is it the height? Is it through heavy defense? Are the teams top-tier? Was the assist fancy? Was it at a key point of the game or in garbage time?

I wouldn't want the job.
