Game Thread | Game #59 | Bulls @ Cavs | Feb. 11, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's over
I feel like that one layup by Garland that just hung on the rim for a sec before dropping in was the fulcrum upon which this game pivoted. In an alternate universe, it fell out & the Cavs lost by 18.
In Quantum land the Cavs both won and lost until you read the box score...

This was real basketball, down to the score.
Cavs probably should have lost this one just based on the scheduling.

A few alarming things: only one made FG from the bench. I guess you can blame it on the back to back scheduling.
LeVert only had one point but I think he filled in nicely in where he had to contribute otherwise.
Credit to JB. As the game looked wrapped, Lavine hit a 3 late in the game to make the game closer. JB immediately subbed in Okoro after a time out.
Lavine went right back into the gulag after that.
There was a classic "Bummond" moment at the rim. I don't understand why he is so ASS at the rim.
With Darius and Ricky, you can see where the Bulls are lacking. Lonzo being out hurts them immensely - none of their other guards can get them in the places they need to be on offense.

Yep. Watch the crowd coming to its feet as Mitchell releases the ball and then the bench reaction.

My daughter called me from college right when that shot went in. Paused the game for 2 hours as we talked, (one thing my important than cleveland sports)....then watched the rest of the comeback victory.

It was honestly the perfect place to pause tale of two games for me, lol

Play of the game? What do you think?

A play like that just lifts the entire team just from the freaking style points. And you could see the Bulls looking around at each other trying to figure out what happened. Such a great play for a team that was tired and needed a boost in mental energy.

pangos went to russia then the next day russia invaded ukraine. pretty suspicious

That clearly fits. Cavs were getting too good to need a tank commander.

Man Drummond is just such a frustrating player. He should be so good. He is the best rebounder of the last 15 years, has good vision as a passer, can dribble just a little, has legitimately elite hands on defense as a ball thief and rim protector, and at least while younger was pretty nimble too. But he has no touch in the paint, amazingly bad hands on offense, and some stupendously bad bball IQ. If he was willing to just do garbage man/PnR stuff on offense and be a beast on D/rebounding the dude would've gone down as a multi-time All NBA player. He has the potential for a 15-15-3-2-2 season. Instead we have...this

Drummond is 29, in this 10th season, and by the end of this year will have earned nearly $142 million. Great work if you can get it.

After earning $28 million from Cleveland in '20-'21 he's earned just $5.7 million the last two years combined. The league no longer views him as a starting center.

His game against the Cavs was a typical mix of good and bad. In 12 minutes he had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and a block. Pretty impressive. But he also had 4 turnovers and committed 3 fouls. It was funny when he was holding the ball out with one hand and Mitchell (I think) just took it away from him.

He's always been pretty durable IIRC, so I expect he'll hang around for at least another five years in his current role, changing teams pretty much every year. Heck, we could do worse than signing him to back up Allen next year if he turns down his $3.6 M player option with the Bulls. He would be a big (and affordable) upgrade over Lopez.

He would have to have a completely different mindset.

He still begs for the ball on almost every possession , usually
ignoring anything/anyone else.

Too much of a me, me, me player whose attitude I want
nowhere around the Cavs.

Last few games they are really playing basketball that is nice to watch . They collected many wins before, but many of them were struggle almost til the end . One of thr things I noticed that is different are non-dunking shots by Mobley and especially Allen. Early in the season it was rather unlikely that shots few feet away will go in, but in the last games they found their touch. So by them prividing so many points even on nights when bench is not providing many points team still scores enough

Watch Lopez crumple to the floor when Mitchell cans the three. Priceless.
That reaction was worth the price of admission. I missed it in the video. Thanks for pointing it out!

So nice to have the Cavs be the team that imposes its will over the
opposition down the stretch.

Drummond was even worse than his Cavs days. I loved our announcers laughing
when he blew the dunk.
I always loved Drummond's work on the boards, being an old rebound man myself. But as many have pointed out, his basketball IQ is lacking. I am more grateful for trading him away than ever before.
